?What is the best month to scuba dive in St. Croix?
I'm trying to figure out where and when I want to go on a dive vacation in 2023!

St. Croix Research Report Aug. 2017 - Trip Report - St. Croix Research Report Aug. 2017

From that thread:

-----Wikipedia notes water temp.s range from 77 - 86 degrees F. Review of a range of sources indicates good to excellent viz. N2TheBlue noted the Christmas winds - seasonal winds running roughly from late Dec. through Jan. and possibly part of March, which can interfere with north coast shore diving. St. Croix is in the hurricane belt, so be aware planning late summer/fall trips.
Be mindful the Virgin Islands are far enough north in the Caribbean that water temp.s may be a bit seasonal. So in mid. to late winter, I suspect you might be down around that 77 degree point.

I enjoyed my land-based trip quite well, but just to be aware of the options, the Juliet live-aboard has done St. Croix trips part of the year, in case that's good to know.

We had good conditions visiting in Mid-March, but it can still be a bit windy/sporty during that time. Before you book, I'd be sure to look at cruise ship schedules to see how many days there will be ships at the pier in Frederiksted -- because that is a great dive site, but you can't dive there when ships are there.

I actually have been there on a Liveaboard on The Juliet - We were there in Jan/Feb (not exactly sure which month) The best diving we had was at the Pier and ended up there for quite a bit of the time.

Never did make it to the East side as it was too rough while we were there.

I'd like to go when the water temps are a bit warmer and am looking to do a land based trip.

Rob9876.... Good thinking to look and see the Cruise ship schedule.

So, I'm just kind of wondering if there is a certain month that the water temps are warmer, the winds calmer and the chances of seeing something spectacular are higher.

Yes, I would dive the Pier, A LOT, but would like to throw in a few boat dives too.
Who knows, I may not even go there. I'm just trying to get some ideas!

From quick Googling at SeaTemperatureInfo.com on St. Croix:

"Water temperature in Saint Croix today is 80.8°F. Based on our historical data over a period of ten years, the warmest water in this day in Saint Croix was recorded in 2010 and was 83.5°F, and the coldest was recorded in 2009 at 80.1°F. Sea water temperature in Saint Croix is expected to rise to 81.7°F in the next 10 days. May average water temperature in Saint Croix is 81.7°F, the minimum temperature is 79.9°F, and the maximum is 84.7°F.

The swimming season in Saint Croix lasts from January to December, twelve months per year! During those months, Saint Croix water temperature does not drop below 68°F and therefore suitable for comfortable swimming. The average water temperature in Saint Croix in winter reaches 80.4°F, in spring 80.6°F, in summer the average temperature rises to 83.3°F, and in autumn it is 84.2°F."

That page should give you some idea of temperature trends. Then, just avoid the windy late winter period, and perhaps the hurricane season if you don't feel lucky. Looks like June - Nov. are pretty warm.

Thanks so much for this. I suppose If I had been thinking I could have googled it, but whenever I have a diving question, my first thought is to "ask folks on Scubaboard"!
