On a side note...if someone shows up to take you diving and their boat is in this condition.....run away. It doesn't surprise me one bit that a guy driving that s#@! show of a boat would then run over divers in the water. A boat is usually a direct reflection of a dive op....

Yeah, and I don't know where I got that it was two women exactly. I used that article as it seemed the best version at the time. Some now say it was a man and woman, while this one says two men, American marine biologists...
The Daily Mail did a fairly correct article. I was one of the other divers on the trip. The dive master was the top on on the rope with me third on the rope. Then Tom And Evan Where last. I had really enjoyed talking with Tom that day.

No, as you'll discover if you read the thread.
No But Mr Tom has done that in the past. At a different time. From my talking to one of the dive shop owners they have been a problem.

From the article you posted that you said was fairly accurate…
'We were diving on a shipwreck... the other big huge boat was passing through and it hit us.

Were you or others divers also hit by the boat? Maybe us in that statement just means us, the group? I’m sorry for what you experienced.

David, I'm sorry you had to experience this tragedy. I hate to press, but could you describe the rope you were on?

From your description I'm picturing a vertical rope anchored to the bottom with a buoy on top. The DM was shallowest, you were in the middle, and the victims deepest.

Is that accurate?

I'm struggling to understand how a boat missed the shallowest divers and hit the deepest divers, so I suspect I'm wrong in what I'm assuming here.

I think he was describing the lineup on the float line.

I look at these reports as a learning opportunity for me. I'm not blaming anyone for how they handled themselves in an extreme situation. Just trying to help myself learn how to survive in tragic circumstances, while also trying to be respectful of the deceased.

My husband pointed out something else. The reels are called 'finger spools' because we generally hook a finger through one of the holes. If you try to hold onto the reel withOUT hooking a finger you're likely to drop it and have the string unspooling. What if your finger gets stuck in the spool when a boat hits your SMB? How do most of you hold your spools? Will you try to do it differently after this incident?
The halcyon spools don’t let your fingers go all the way into them.

My wife and I have a habit of being last on the boat. We wait at 15 feet below the aft end of the boat and slide up to the ladder as that last person steps up. Mostly it's to avoid someone falling backward off of the ladder and hitting us but it also avoids tangles in the float line etc. This is just one more reason to keep up that habit. It's not often possible on a live boat pickup after a drift dive depending on the current.

Yes that is correct.

Yes that is correct.
Wow. That was not what I was expecting. I'm speculating from the pictures that "Mr. Tom" has a fairly deep draft. Were you and the other shallower diver pushed out of the way by the hull, while the two deeper divers were a bit deeper, so were likely drawn in by the props.

Sorry you had to witness this.
