My wife and I have been to Bonaire about 5 or 6 times in the past 10 years. We have always stayed for 1 week. In January we are going to be there for two weeks(can't wait). We always had breakfast in the condo, along with most lunches. We did have to grab a burger or 2 from some of the food trucks a few times. We always ate dinner out. Groceries have always been expensive, but cheaper than eating out every night. I am looking for thoughts on what we can bring with us to cut down on the price of groceries. Does anyone bring packaged side dishes?
Any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks

We take power/protein bars. Quick, very nutritious and quite cost effective. Why not dive and maximize your health at the same time (at least a few times).

When diving locally at home we take and eat MRE’s. Still quick and cost-effective but not as nutritious or tasty. I wouldn’t want to travel with the heater pack/thing they come with either.

There is also “cup of soups” but the sodium is usually off the charts on them. Again though I’m sure doing a few of them wouldn’t hurt. Good luck!

We usually take some peanut butter, it travels well and dinner good local bread will elevate it. I've heard of people bringing frozen meat. Wrapping it really well and then rolling it up in wet suits. And it still being frozen solid after 10-12 hrs.

I bring a clampsable Yeti cooler and but frozen or cold stuff in there. As long as you have a big enough fridge and freezer in your room. But spend 6 months in Aruba and Bonaire, so eating out, really adds up. I would rather cook in and dive as much as I like.

Next time I go I’m taking a giant cooler on the plane loaded with food.

I went to Abaco recently and realized that it would have been cheaper to rent dive gear and bring my own food instead of taking all my dive gear and no food.

Of course none of this might apply to you. I have my own planes :)

Well hell, you just solved my problem. Next time you fly to Boanire on one of your own planes we will join you. I have a rather large cooler I can load up and bring with on your plane.:thanks:

You joke, but my last trip I invited literally every diving buddy I had. None of them could get time off from work. I flew over by myself.

Looks like you need some new dive buddies.. and I need a new friend. :daydream:

Then again I am in SoCal... :banghead:

I got a dive buddy that fly's but for the life of me I can seem to motivate him to do both at the same time.

This thread was originally about cutting costs.

It's not surprising that a person who would brag about having planes has trouble finding anyone who would want to go anywhere with him/her.

I did find one way of cutting cost on a rental truck. Pay for it with American Express, and you are covered by their insurance. No need to get the CDW insurance from the rental company on the island. That saves between $150 and $200 depending on which rental company you chose.
