I have seen many attractive rentals in the Corpus Christi neighborhood. I was wondering about noise from the street, businesses etc. Not trying to sound like a diva, but I am a light sleeper and gravitate towards quiet areas. It does look like a great area to stay.

Thanks for posting this report. Jealous that you were able to have an extended vacation. The extra beds are an attractive option if a snoring spouse keeps me awake:wink:

This house is actually not in Corpus Christi. It is in el Centro (as is my house across the street...Ave. 11 is the dividing line between centro and Christi).

The street is pretty busy/noisy in the day as it's a through street from airport road through to 11; taxis and tour groups use it a lot, but it gets quiet in the evening....mostly. The noisiest evenings are when there is an event at the Palacio (which would be even worse if you are in Corpus Christi)...usually Saturday or Sunday. In the off-season, it is VERY quiet. The good thing is that the house is set back from the street by a small courtyard and big surrounding walls.

Across the street, I usually sleep like a rock (except nights when I want to smother my snoring husband), and our bedroom faces the street and we sleep with windows open but locked and blocked with bars on everything. Occasionally hear drunks coming home from the bar around 3 a.m. shouting and fighting...but that is rare and especially now with curfews.

I live in Corpus Christi on 17. It’s a moderately busy street, definitely not as busy as MMMs street. Our bedrooms are in the back of the house, it’s very quiet. We might hear a dog barking and the Corpus Christi church bells when our windows are open. We just moved in April so we most nights we do use the a/c, windows closed. With Covid there have been no big events at the Palacio. I have friends that live on 19 that tell me it’s not a big problem. Hoping that’s true!

I'm sad about your experience at La Mission! I eat there on every trip and love their coconut shrimp. I hope it hasn't declined due to the pandemic!

Mexico in general is a noisy country. People honk their horns often (not in anger). Lots of scooters. Dogs bark all the time. Roosters crow. Service trucks announce their coming through loudspeakers as they drive through the streets. People play their music late. It just seems to be part of the culture.

Are you sure it's La Mission and not Casa Mission you are thinking of? I've been to both and I don't remember Coconut Shrimp on the La Mission menu. I had the Coconut Shrimp at Casa Mission in May and it was wonderful.

100% positive it is La Mission. About a block away from La Choza between Melgar and 5th. I've never been to Casa Mission, but been to La Mission dozens of times. I believe it's the same owner of La and Casa!

Sorry to hear the OP did not enjoy La Mission. We go there every time and enjoy it. Though the prices are a bit more than some places, they do offer an excellent diver discount. When we were there 2 weeks ago, they gave a 30% discount on everything but alcohol -- so that made a big difference.

It's been years since we went to Casa Mission, but when we did I believe the menus were almost identical. I think Casa Mission may have been a tiny bit more expensive. Yes, La Mission definitely has the Coconut Shrimp in their specialty section of the menu (https://www.facebook.com/lamissioncozumel/photos/p.10155360231616064/10155360231616064) -- my daughter got it there 2 weeks ago.

For those who are quite cheap (like me) I believe lunch at La Mission after diving is a good value -- prices are pretty low, and they give the diver discount then also (you do need to show a C-card, usually for each person). We like the fish burrito and the shrimp burrito. I'm a fan of their non-alcoholic naranjadas also for a refreshing drink on a hot day.
