Just a curious question but, why do they not teach or promote using a Regulator Necklace on your primary 2nd Stage, in a short hose config?

I saw a guy doing this yesterday, and I was like, why not.. I only dive long hose these days, and always use one.

Just curious...

when using a long hose / short hose configuration, most teach to donate to the primary reg out of your mouth which is on the long hose, while keeping the alternate securely on a necklace just for you.
my wife actually used to like to keep her primary on a necklace and would donate her alternate. she used a standard hose configuration though with the alternate on the longer hose. she just liked how the necklace held the reg in her mouth. maybe less jaw fatigue ?

My primary 2nd stage is bungeed around my head. Holds the reg in my mouth (pretty much, anyway) should I ever go unconscious. Poor man's FFM. haven't heard of anyone else doing this.

As others have mentioned, it’s often a matter of personal taste; though, extraneous crap around my neck, always gave me the willies . . .

I dive with a reg on a bungee necklace positioned just a little below my chin. I can lower my head and pick it up with my lips. My experience in sharing in an out of air situation is that an out of air diver will swim up and rip the reg out of your mouth. That being said, my primary reg for regular drift or shallow diving is on a 40 inch hose with a swivel adaptor on the second stage.( This allows for a comfortable angle on the second stage in my mouth and the ability to keep the hose tucked in to reduce drag).
When diving deep( 30 meters++) I use a 60 inch or 72 inch hose on my primary depending on the doubles I use. But my secondary reg is always bungeed around my neck right in front of my chin. I practice using it too.

That's exactly what I do. I only do open water recreational diving and didn't like the long-hose configuration, but I borrowed this necklace idea but for my primary reg. I use a 26 inch hose for the primary and a 36 inch for my octo, both Miflex. If a panicky diver pulls out my primary that's fine with me, the bungee necklace will slip out over the mouthpiece. In most cases the the OOA diver will pull out the octo (which I attach with a magnetic holder).

I've used some kind of necklace on my primary since 1968, back then the second stages came with a cheap snap fastener necklace thing. I want my reg there where I can find it. My sec. reg is clipped to my right harness strap. I use this same configuration with a single tank or independent doubles.

A second 2nd stage wasn't something in use when I got certified, so necklacing was something a diver did or didn't do on their own. Since a lot of my diving is solo donating is not something I'm overly concerned about and have only done once for real, successfully.
