Do you turn the air off or leave it on after setting up on a tank?

Tank valves off unless the tank is on my back. Regulators depressurized if using AI transmitters so they aren't broadcasting needlessly and killing the battery

why purge the regs? increases risk of saltwater intrusion on a bumpy boat as well as o-ring issues if the first stage starts turning.

I drive to the site with my rig all set but reg not attached. At the site I attach it, turn air on and check that all is good. Air stays on. Then do all the other stuff to get ready (like donning wetsuit, belt, etc.) and dive. When the 2nd dive is done I check my remaining psi for my log book then turn the air off, purge reg so I'm set to take it apart. Then I change back to clothes. Next I take it apart and head to Burger King.

For boat diving I turn it off. I have had something touch the second stage and bleed air. I couldn't hear it over the boat noise, so I turn them off. We NEVER get in the water without holding the pressure gauge in our hands and taking breaths. The gauge will not twitch if the valve is fully on. If it twitches or drops something is wrong. If someone touches my tank valve, I check again.

put your tank valve where you can reach it. Jump in with the gas off, reach back and turn it back on....

I should do that every dive! It would be great practice! Are you gonna hold my speargun, lobster gear, scooter and reel towing a float while I'm doing it in a 2 kt current?

do it before you jump, but you're telling me that both hands are fully occupied on the whole descent? How are you inflating your bc or manipulating any of those items? It takes less than 5 seconds with your right hand.

I like to turn my valve off but leave the reg(s) pressurized. However I have found myself in the water with my valve off doing this. This resulted in my hanging the reg by the necklace from the valve wheel as a signal to remind me to turn the valve on. Works, most of the time.

What ever you do, take 2-3 breaths before jumping in to verify it's open.

And watch your gauge while you do it! You might have a few breaths in the hoses but the pressure will drop.

As soon as I get my equipment set up I turn the air on and leave it on. There was only one time I forgot to turn it on and one time an overzealous DM turned it off on a boat dive.
