Curious to know if anyone has had an issue with the go pro protective/ dive housing. My local dive shop told me that it wouldn’t hold up pass about 80ft even though go pro claims it can go to 190 ish feet. Can anyone clarify this for me. Not sure if the dive shop is just trying to sell me a dedicated dive camera or he is giving me valid advice. DM said he never dove with a GoPro but is speaking from other people experiences. In the process of doing my aow and instruct said it’s okay for me to take down a camera if I want to. Hell yeah I do lol

I have had mine to 130 and below 100 many times, no issues.

He might be referring to cheap knock off housings? Different housings will have differen depth ratings and the really cheap ones may give you problems.

I've had mine to 220-230 multiple times without problems. It goes to 150-200 a couple of times a month.

The older ones and some knockoffs have a problem where the lens port would flex in and actually press against the lens of the camera, creating a blurry spot in the center.

I have a knockoff one on a go pro 7 (supersuit requires removal of lens cover every time you put it on (WTF)) and had it down to a 100 a few times without any issues.

No I have the official protective house from go pro for the 8 . I’ve been down to about 60 ft with it so far..so I take it he was just trying to sell me the other camera . He kept going to it and showing me the camera and all the features after I told him I’m not buying a camera until I can afford a nice dslr rig that’s like $10k plus he was like no dude you’ll be fine with this .. I agree but I want what I want. ‍♂️ Anyone has ever been to a shop where they don’t try to push stuff on you.. haha went to the shop last night for my aow. Review and was asking about backplate and wings. I eventually want to go into tech two tank dives and he was like I should get a back Inflate bcd first like why spend that money.. I can get a back and a single tank bladder now and when I’m ready for doubles I just but the double bladder .. ‍♂️

I too have had mine in the 130 foot range with no issues.

I'm sure you'll be fine with the housing to the rated depth. Sounds like the guy just wants to sell stuff - or just doesn't get that there are other options besides what he thinks is best. Sounds like you need to find a different shop.
