So took the plunge today and ordered a backplate and wing setup. I went with more of a recreational harness that straight simple webbing since I like the ability to adjust while its on and the quick release. I've been on a few dives with a backplate and wing setup and I'm just more comfortable in the water with it. I really dislike jackets. I went with Hollis, and a custom wing from Halcyon. SS Plate. No Tank adapter yet, but I think I will probably get one in the future if only to get another 6 pounds off of my waist.

fyi....the single tank adapter would not be 6lbs

Enjoy!

If I needed to add 6lbs I'd like to put it where I need it and not just where it's convenient. Also the last place I want to carry 6lbs of lead is in my luggage while traveling.

The weighted STAs seem to work well for most people that I know who use them. It distributes the poundage along the length of the back at the centerline. This is reasonably close to where a lot of people put extra weight anyway (cambands, trim pouches, etc.).

I really like my Halcyon weighted STA. It’s true that you won’t or won’t want to pack it while traveling but I dive with steel tanks locally so have to deal with AL tanks while traveling anyway. Get the OMS trim pockets for the cam straps. Good size and when weighted almost as well trimmed as the weighted STA

OMG!

You’re going to die!

Who dared give you such bad advice!

But, seriously unless you dive with people who like to use their ezecuts, you are way better off going with the adjustable quick release harness. While I am at it, I like adjustable harnesses because I can easily make mine drum tight. Heresy.
