Was wondering if anyone knows if any of the Toronto Dive shops are offering or capable of offering the Discover Scuba session with the current pandemic state? I see most the training is all online now for the open Water and such but was looking to get the Girlfriend to try before going through hours of course material only to discover she does not like it.

Try Aquarius Scuba in Etobicoke. I remember seeing an email from them a couple weeks ago saying they were planning to re-start open water check-out dives and that their pool was going to be ready/opened soon, or something to that effect, IIRC. Sorry I wasn’t paying much attention to the email and have since deleted it.

But AFAIK, no indoor pools have been opened just yet in the GTA but many outdoor pools have already opened but for limited purposes. They mainly do discover scubas in indoor pools but they might’ve changed that due to Covid.

I've only mail ordered gear from Aquarius, but found them good to deal with, FWIW.

Thanks Dogbowl. That is what I was wondering if some of the local shops might have adjusted to doing the Discover Diving and other in pool components via other facilities. I will check them out today!

i am still teaching as our confined water is a lake , and protocols used, and because our accommodations are quarantined a self sufficient

you could give Pete a shout at toronto scuba club. they use the bishop strachan school pool, but i think it's going to be a longshot at the moment.

Give Todd Shannon of Aquasystems a call @ 905-277-8881. I don't know what training they are doing during these COVID-19 times but worth a phone call. They have 2 locations: Mississauga and Port Credit. They usually dive out of the West Humber area.

I also did the Discovery dive first to see if I wanted to invest the time and money. I did the Discovery in Curacao. If I were to do a do over, I wouldn't have done the Discovery. Why? From a short classroom, to pool to the sea all in roughly a 3 hour time period. For me there was too much information and processes to decipher. Ps - I didn't like my pool experience (small pool) but really liked being out in the Caribbean. I enjoyed my OW and AOW much better. Recommendation: hire a private PADI instructor for the both of you. Similar price and far better 1:1 service. My 2 CAD cents.

Glad to hear Todd still in the game. I did my Open with with him and his Brother years and years ago. Christ he must be an old man now.... Hell I am an old man now. LOL

Seems biggest challenge is indoor pools still being closed. I thought maybe (hoped) one of the shops ether via Private pool or some other shallow water area might have been able to continue some form of operation. Looks like it will wait till phase 3.

I like the idea of a private instructor if there is a pool available. I think there is a Dive shop in Mid Town close to my Girl Friends condo. Will see if they would come to the condo pool.
