Hi carlito35,

One way to do this is go to "File->Backup Database". This will let you save a copy of the database (.db) file anywhere you like. Then on the new computer, use "File->Restore Database". Or if the new computer already has some dives downloaded, use "File->Merge Databases".

If you want to find the database file directly, use "File->Open Dive Log Directory". Go up one folder level from there, and you should find the "dive_book_1.db" file.

Does anyone know where the ShearwaterDesktop.db is stored on a Mac?

The hard disk on my Mac Mini died and I should have the database backed up in Time Machine but I don't know where in the millions of files in Time Machine to look for the file so I can copy it to my MacBook until I replace the hard disk.

Note that I tried "Open Dive Log Directory..." on the MacBook to at least get a location but it does nothing.

I'll answer my own question.

On a Mac:

"/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.shearwaterresearch.divebook/Local Store"

So I am switching laptops and saved a backup of my database. Only some of the dives got saved. How do I force it to save the entire dive list?

Are you syncing to the cloud storage? I haven't tried switching laptops, but I do have dives on iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. As long as I sync, they are all available.

I generally download to my iPhone at the dive site, then pull it down to the local copy on my MacBook when I'm home.

No I saved a backup of the database locally. When I reopen that backup only about 1/2 of the dives are there

I'm not sure what's causing that. If you still have access to the original laptop, try syncing to Cloud. Then, on your new laptop sync to cloud as well. It should pull everything down.

I didn't think I would use Cloud much at first. Prior to getting a Shearwater, I used Subsurface, and never turned on cloud storage for a few years. When I first got my Perdix, I saw the benefit. My old computer used a cable, so I'd have to sync to a PC anyway. With the Perdix, I sync to my phone at the dive site. I sync to both Subsurface and SW Cloud on my phone. Then, when I'm able, sync both on my computer.
