Hey diveUAE, I believe it is for the Komodo Island only.

As stated in the article: "I Wayan said that visitors without a membership card would be directed to Rinca Island, which is also home to Komodo dragons"

Diving doesnt seems to be affected yet. Hopefully not.

Yes, there do seem to be some confusion about Komodo Island and Komodo National Park. It’s just the first paragraph makes me nervous, as it sounds like it’s the whole park.

There's a whole thread devoted to this from some months back.

not the whole park no.. diving is business as usual. And yes, Rinca is the better nature walk anyway

I know. I’ve been following the matter closely, was happy, when they announced nothing was going to change in 2020, but this is a new article from 5/2 stating the 1000$ fee will come into action in 2020 and that they’re expecting 50.000 visitors despite the fee rise.

Fine if it’s only for Komodo Island itself, as we only planned on visiting Rinca (even though I do expect Rinca to be even more busy than before) and dive.

We’re traveling in July with our 2 kids, and would have to cancel if the fee was 1000$ per person to enter the park.

Of course, that's completely understandable. I'd imagine most singkes won't pay the $1000 either let alone couples or families.

Seems ridiculous to me.
