Hi y'all, recently I've been thinking, should I purchase the latest Gopro hero black 7 for making UW videos or do you think shooting with my sony RX100MK2 is still better, despite the lack of 4K ? I do find the UW 4K footages stunning personally compare to 1080P on my sony camera.
I read people are also using this Yi knock-off Gopro camera which also seems to be very good, so, to Gopro or not gopro ? And I know I will have to buy the filters, UW case and what else ....
Thanks for the help !

One extra question : can you even zoom UW with the latest Gopro, any good result or ......

I would go with the GoPro 7, the Isota housing and the flip filter system, all from Backscatter. I think I'm ordering that in the am. :D :D :D

I saw that Isota but is damn expensive and i don't intend to go to 100m either which is meant to go deeper than that, and I my dives are to max 40 - 45m max usually.
Any returns with this "GoPro super suit dive housing" ? Reliable or not ? I do trust more evthing that is made of aluminium personally but what about the quality of this "super suit dive" ?

My buddy had his supersuit flood in Cozumel last year: only one o-ring. The Isota has two o-rings and you don't have to take the front piece off of the camera to use it. That it takes the flip filters is awesome. I run mine on a Snake River Prototyping tray.

If you're not viewing on a 4K monitor you're not getting full benefit of 4K. But it allows you to "zoom" in post-processing and still have decent resolution. I typically shoot in 2.7K to have Linear field of view. No zoom in the camera underwater since their zoom feature is controlled solely through the touch back screen, which obviously is not an option under water.

I've been using this $15 Fitstill housing that fits the Gopro without removing the front lens. It's been on over 100 dives mostly in the 70-100' range but as deep as 140'. The standard Gopro and Backscatter filters fit the front bezel.

I do have 65" oled TV so I can. Pity for the non possibility of zooming while diving.
Thanks for those infos.

Nothing wrong with them.

That would have been an operator issue not a gear fail.

I like that you don't have to take the front off but bugger paying $600AUD for the privilege.
Even with two o-rings it will still flood if they're damaged or you close it with crap on them.

I'm diving a GoPro Hero 7 in cheep chinese knockoff housing to 60 meters with no problems. The gopro itself is waterproof, so unless the housing compleatly fails there is a good chance it survives a flood. For deeper dives i'm geting the Subal GO5 housing, for 100 dolars more than the Issota you get a 300m ready housing that accepts ports and the gopro accessories/handles. You pair it up with a couple of camera lights and you have a more than decent setup for underwater video.

I found that for filming underwater 2.7k works best at 30 or even 24 frames with the widest angle possible (you fix it up in post) . 4k 60fps looks really bad once in low light or changing light conditions.

Only if the GoPro still has its lens cover on right? Do you have to remove it to get it in the Chinese knock off?

It largely depends on what you shoot. If you are shooting mostly ambient light wide angle then 4K will be an improvement even if you don't see all the pixels the benefit is visible especially at close range

If you shoot macro and close up or require high iso performance the GoPro will not be an upgrade from the RX100MkII, when you look at close up footage the amount of chromatic aberration of the GoPro is visible and coming from the RX100 it will look very ugly to you
