I have two Heinrichs Weikamp computers, extremely well made, operate as good as Shearwaters. The company is also very responsive to any problems. Hopefully they will soon report what happened and why.

According to the attached link the manufacturer stated, that the cause was, that a normal, non-rechargeable battery was in the computer, but it was still put on the charging-pad. After a couple of hours without incident the "explosion" happend.
The lid of the battery case flew off. Someone was holding it at that that time but was unhurt.

Please, pretty please, nobody from the TSA ever read this or anything related to it... Would severely hate a DC ban for carry on and checked...
