Hello,

In your experience, has buying a BP/W setup from a LDS been pleasant? I'm particularly interested in how much support they provided after the purchase with fitting the rig to you and your needs. Obviously all LDS are not created equal, so I'm sure there is a variance, but in general I suppose. Thanks.

Kind Regards,
David

If they have what you need and it’s a good price, then I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t get it.

It really depends on the shop. More recreationally focused shops will test your patience (I’ve seen people wait ten weeks). Tec focused shops will likely provide better, more timely service

Are you really a 15-year-old Electrical Engineer?

Haha, that's the second inquiry on the subject. Apparently, after you enter your age, it's fixed. I sent Scubaboard a message to fix my mistake. I'm 36.

If you are in the heart of cave country than there's a chance they will be able to assist you. I would advise asking as many questions as you can on this forum, do some online research and then ask the questions you didn't know to ask the first time around. Have a very good understanding of what you want and why you want it before purchasing from your LDS. If someone at the dive shop questions your reasoning....which they will, (especially when there is a larger margin or they are trying to meet a quota for brand X) be sure you have a valid answer. It's ok if you don't, just take your time and do a little more research. That all being said, I always try to purchase local, I like to be able to walk in and talk to someone if there are warranty issues. They will usually help you keep track of your serviced items and the service dates....just in case you misplace your journal....

When I bought my first BPW 7 years ago my LDS helped me set it up perfectly for my twinset, they couldn't have been more helpful.

I have to agree. Sorry I didn't mention this above. Once I knew what I wanted and why I wanted it, my LDS was very helpful in setting everything up and gave plenty of additional tips on fine tuning.

I bought my Freedom contour from Eric here on Scubaboard, then my webbing and wing online, and I knew better than to ask my LDS for help tweaking it into best position. Instead I took a Trade Show class with Ed Hayes of GUE and got some assistance with initial adjustments. My LDS offers pool time, so they are also great but don’t sell Freedom contour backplates.
