I always tip them, but the one sore spot with me in regards to this practice is that I have never seen a female bagger(although most of te cashiers have been women) and very rarely see women taxi drivers, vendors or waitstaff. I am not trying to be a Debbie Downer. I always pack extra money for tipping. I just hope that these jobs and opportunities are not being denied to women.

Or maybe that is just their cultural preference?

There are lots of lady baggers.

They seem to expect some of the smallest change that you get. I always give them 10 pesos or so and get a big thank you so I think that is more than normal.

I lived in Saltillo back in 2000. A bus would drop a bunch of school age kids off at the grocery store every day - they sat on a bench up by the check out lines and an older guy assigned them to lanes as people were checking out. You'd see them doing typical kid things but when the gringo's came thru the checkout line, they'd sit straight up on their best behavior hoping the bossman would pick them......

Sad situation as they should have been in school, you'd see it all over the city be it begging selling newspapers etc.....
