Hi I am currently I am working in Surabaya,East Java, Indonesia and have a few weeks off in June / July. I have booked to go on a liveaboard in Komodo in July and am trying to decide if I should try and squeeze in a stop in Sulawesi too. I have been told that Bunaken is great and had the dive company, Two Fish recommended. I have also read that Bira has some great diving too.The only problem is that they are at opposite ends of the island and as I'm earning rupees, I am on a tight budget, but equally don't want to miss out, especially as most flights go via Makassar anyway. I saw a post from Angel61 saying that they were going to Bira but did not see anything about their time there? I would really appreciate some help trying to decide where best to spend my time / money! Many thanks in advance

July maybe not the best time of year for Bira.

Why Sulawesi? While in Surabaya, you can practically dive in Bali during weekends.

I dived in Bali a few years ago and am going to go there again in June. I hope to seethe Mola Molas this time. I have been to Bali for two weekends so far but am saving my money to go diving when the conditions are better. I went to Sumatra in January and am just trying to make the most of my holiday and budget. I am earning rupees and dives are expensive!

The site I looked at indicated that the diving would be ok in June but getting colder in August. However, I have also read some reviews that make me think that as it is such a hard place to get to,I may be better off going straight to Bunaken. I'm not sure about Lembeh though as I prefer corals and haven't been muck diving before.

You could easily grab a cheap flight from Makassar to Manado and have the option of Manado Mainland, Bunaken, Bangka and Lembeh to choose from.

+1 on what Wingy says, why not contact Murex and see if they can provide good deal for you.
