With my drysuit I use 11.2kg of lead.
I used to put all the weight in the bcd. 3.6kg in each pocket and 2kg in each trim pocket.
I have now swapped this to 7.2on weight belt which is comfortable as only 2 leads and not that heavy and also makes my bcd alot easier to handle. With my bp/wing with ss backplate I go down to 3kg on bp and 5kg on belt for 10.2kg total

Looking in to some weight harnesses (will also serve me when/if I move over to a BP/W). The price differential is huge based on whether you build or buy.

The DUI and Scubapro systems look very nice but for $200 AUD that's a fair chunk of change for a weight belt. Are these worth the investment or are they probably a lot for a little?

Trawling the auction site I came across a product made by Seal in the U.K. that looks to deliver the same for half the price. Wondering if anyone has tried one of these?

Weight Harness – Technical – Seal Diving

Don't think I could make one for much less than that.

I got a sore back last dive so I assume I'm looking for a system that means I can drop the weight harness to my hips (would I also need a crotch strap for that?).

So I'm clear, do these harnesses hang ok on their own around your hips? Assume it would only be an issue if I went upside down?

The real plus I found of them over a standard weight belt is that they didn't rely on having an a$$ to hold them on you... Can be worn mildly snug without fear of ending up on your ankles. Never worried about it if I inverted.... (this is both a DUI W&T and my home made one).

I bought a Fusion dry suit this spring and after a couple of dives bought the DUI weight harness. Being a big guy, I need about 40 lbs. I have 4x6 on the harness, 2x6 on the BCD and 2x3 lbs on the back of the BCD. The harness distributes weight better than a belt will and all but the 6 lbs on the back of the BCD is dumpable. For me, the shifting of the belt was annoying, the having the belt snug enough to keep it in place creates a restriction that prevents the movement of air within the suit, making a bubble in my legs that much harder to get rid of.

Climbing tape is hollow inside. I've filled a length with shot from soft bags and wrapped it around the plastic plate. I got about 4lbs.

Seal both ends with heat and sew. It worked really well till I got my steel plate.

Might take a gamble on the Seal Diving product. They’ve sold 233 so far and feedback seems to talk of a high quality unit.

Worth a gamble.

There is likely a compromise when having to carry significant weight.

When you first posted, I wondered about cutting holes and filling that hollow blow molded pack with lead shot...
