How tight do you attach the hoses to the 1st stage.?

I had mine serviced. I reviewed the tightness of the hoses attached to the 1st stage. the weight alone of the wrench could move it!

is this right?

Just snug it up. Don't crank on it. The weight of the wrench might be a little loose. But not much more than that. You shouldn't have to grip it tightly with your free hand to hold on to the 1st stage while you crank on it.

The key thing to remember is that the threads do not provide the sealing surface (unlike a gas or water pipe). The seal is provided by the oring mating between 2 sealing surfaces.

You only need to tighten it enough to stay fastened.

ok thanks guys... after the snug. i think i was able to turn it 1/16 or 1/8 more.. hope i didn't mess up anything.
Really. It doesn't have to be 1/8 turn past contact tight. Just make contact and snug it enough that it won't come loose by itself.

ok noted... but i don't wana loosen it.. so far it didn't leak.. need to try it in a pool though.

typically it's 3-5 ft-lbs which is what I call snug. what was said before applies - the o-ring is the seal not the torque but it should be sufficient to keep it from backing off from general (ab)use.

As posted above, it's the O ring that seals not torque. I do mine finger tight then a another couple of mm with a wrench. If you can undo it with your fingers it's too loose, if you need more than a modicum of effort to undo it with a wrench it's too tight.

what happens if it's too tight?
