I just don't log dives
I'm going to do my 1st ice diving in 2 weeks.
pretty excited!

The outside temperature should be around -20C and the water just about 3-4C.

Any tips and tricks before I splash?

Is this part of a class, or ad hoc?

Class, PADI course to be more precise

Good class. Excellent manual by Todd Smith, but out of print. Find a copy if you can.
Beneath a Crystal Ceiling: the Complete Guide to Ice Diving by R. Todd Smith

Thanx. I've searched for that book a while back but couldn't find it.
Do you have any tips for one that has never done ice diving?

Don't prebreathe/purge your 2nd stage out of the water.
I hope you get to do the upside-down thing where you get buoyant against the underside of the ice, kneel hands-and-knees upside-down to the ice, and wait a minute or two for your brain to invert everything. Wild! Especially if you are then pulled by your tether to the hole and you....fall into the sky.

I did my ice diver cert many years ago through PADI and the 1st dive was done in a wet suit and the 2nd dive of the day was done in a dry suit. It was a fun course but very cold in the wet suit dive!
