You go to a place called Utopia...and no pictures??? :)

Lunch in the pool concept sounds very nice.

Thanks for the report - very informative.

We were there just as the sale of the property was going on. That was 3 or 4 years ago. We did not have a very good experience on that trip. When we left we figured that would be our 1 and only time on Utila. My wife ended up going to the Dr. when we got home because of stomach issues. I had problems, but not as bad as hers. While there, we did meet representatives of the new owners, they told us of their plans for the place. It all sounded good, but talk is cheap. With this trip report, it sounds like they followed through, plus some. It just seems a little pricey, compared to other destinations around the caribbean.

I'm glad to see a thorough report about such a distinctive place. I've been influenced by some of RJP's posts in other threads discussing marketing, and a business figuring out the target demographic for their product. I wouldn't pay the extra cost for the luxury aspect of Utopia Village, but there are people who would (some routinely, some for special events like a honeymoon or to coax a hesitant spouse into diving/dive travel, etc...). Granted, I'm influenced by other strongly positive reports about CocoView elsewhere, but of the 2 for me, I'd pick CocoView Resort! Put another way, looking at trip reports from Cozumel, some people stay at Hotel Cozumel and some at Cozumel Palace.

In my trip report threads & the questions I ask in other people's, I try to dig out what in that destination/hotel/dive op. makes it 'choose worthy' over other options, and for who. I'm trying to help not just myself but others who read these threads get an accurate understanding so they can pick what's right for them. That way, not only do people have a good time, but they write good trip reports that speak to others like them.

We get occasional threads asking about luxury travel options, and I'm glad this place is now on the radar for the demographic whose needs it meets.

Richard.

Agreed. I hate when some one simply says "it was wonderful" or "it was terrible". My wonderful could be your terrible...

Please tell me "why" you formed your opinion.
