My friend and I are looking to dive near Town 1770 or Gladstone. We are flying from Sydney. I have been trying to find shops or boats that will go out. It's hard since being in USA most places on Internet are shut down. We already have a flight booked now trying to do a day or two on the southern reef. Any help and advise would be so helpful.

Diving from 1770

Not sure if there's diving around Gladstone itself (the traffic through that port would make it almost impossible for recreational diving I suspect), most people would go out to Heron Island to stay and dive.

I'd try and get out to Heron Island if I were you :)

There is a boat that goes out to lady musgrave from 1770 each day. Hope the link worked.
Enjoy your diving.

Not anymore, their huge catamaran caught fire and sank a few months ago when returning from Lady Musgrave. All passengers and crew had to jump into the open ocean, but luckily all were rescued. The web site says they are "temporarily not operating" without this explanation.

I would suggest a better option to go to Byron Bay and do a few days diving there.

Thanks for all the advise..we are trying to do the Great Barrier Reef and do not want to go all the way up to carins. Some research said 1770 was good to get to southern reef? Or any thing in area

As I mentioned, the only charter boat at 1770 sank earlier this year and has not been replaced. You could go out to Lady Elliott Island for a few days. Google it.

did the research you did give feedback on who to dive with. You have said that the Internet places are closed, and the Aussies who have responded here have also indicated that it is no longer operating and to try heron or lady Elliot instead if you are only wanting to dive the barrier reef. Both are the Southern part of the barrier reef? They are fantastic options!

Or for great diving try Byron bay as mentioned above , whilst not the barrier reef it is excellent as is south west rocks which you can even drive from Sydney. I'd opt for those over the barrier reef. Just my 2 cents But must like sharks
