Look here, in Houston's Medical Center there are 15 major hospital groups that can take care of anyone's specialty or needs. I know for a fact that people all over the world come here for the best Medical care possible. I also know that most of them handle the majority of health plans. Yes, Mayo, or Boston's few hospitals may be great but they overall don't compare to the overall availability of Houston

I don't sell medicine, just trying to set the record straight.

While I would tend to agree with Mstevens, lemme just say TX Dave:

And you want to talk about people from all over the WORLD, the first office inside the door of outpatient center is International Assistance. Middle eastern wealth shows up here and rents entire floors in the posh Marburg Pavilion to bring the family along when one is in the hospital. In fact for a small extra fee you can have your inpatient meals delivered from a special Marburg kitchen. Waiter, fancy cart, crystal dishes, etc etc. Food you would go to a fancy restaurant for. Classy.

Now I wouldn't live in Baltimore (or MD). And Hopkins is in the knife and gun club area of the city. But we are only 50 miles out or so in PA which has no taxes on retirement income. Little over an hour to BWI which has non stop to Cancun.

I digress. My point being JHH was saving lives when your Texas version of healthcare was the guy driving the cook wagon put on his 'doctoring' hat. Looks like your Methodist is the best more or less down there and they do rank number 10 in gastro stuff, but beyond that they don't much make the top twenty. Of course that is really, really good I imagine. Just not on par with the little shack old JH built with his millions in Charm City.

That being said, there is a certain allure to being able to say, "Well I run a few head out in west Texas." or "Well they call me the King of the Pecas" or even "Pass me another corn dodger." and I kind have a hankering to own a horse and a big hat and drink whiskey alot. Here is a pic of me trying it out:

I think I could pull it off?

Anyway, the 'other DD', lets not fight. Have a drink with me:

We are looking into the LaGrange, Round Top area in Texas. It's fairly close to Houston, taxes are low, and we have family in the area. Retiring and living here in New York is completely out of the question!

That's interesting Judy. Beautiful part of the state. Close to Austin too.

I'm pretty sure healthcare is just one factor, as the OP isn't considering retiring to Rochester, MN. Quoting state healthcare delivery can be a bit misleading. I'm pretty sure one can get pretty good healthcare of any kind in Houston, Dallas, or Austin and maybe not so much in Wink, TX. There is inherent bias in state by state healthcare delivery statistics for a number of reasons.

After looking at some airline routings, Houston definitely has an edge over Dallas in terms of flying to dive destinations.

If the best rated healthcare is that big a deal here, maybe we need comparative stat.s on pollution, crime, highway fatalities, life expectancy figures, etc...

I get that people want good healthcare. I question to what extent exact ranking is a big deal for most, assuming you have no rare, very hard to treat disease.

Dear Chief,

In Houston we have 15 hospitals of given rank with Johns Hopkins (even though my daughter graduated from JH). Eat that

Coming from NY state you may be in for a shock (politically speaking) when moving to La Grange / Fayette County

True. With the exception of Austin, Texas is a predominantly "red" state.

I live in Austin. :D

Is that given rank the top 100? They probably share that one.

The top ten? No so much....

At least you take good care of your kids..... :shocked2:
