5'6" & 109 lbsnon -neoprene suit & it has zero buoyancy

5' 6" / 109 is a BMI = 17.6

BMI Categories:
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

This is your example? Seriously ??? :rofl3:

I would be curious what OP's son's Ht. & wt is?

Like a 60 lb wing
No single tank diver needs a 60lb wing. I use a 40lb wing for a twinset and stage. Hell, I've even used 2 stages for a few dives while mucking about at a local inland site and still had plenty of lift.

Those specs describe two thirds of the people in the room I'm sitting in right now {glances over at wife and daughter}

Beaver, I want to be open mind here. So I want to know what is your choice here. What size of lift will you choose if you can customizer any BC. And what would be the native buoyancy of this BC.

You sure about that ?

The French parliament has passed a measure that bans modeling agencies and fashion brands from employing models the government deems too thin. Now models will be required to present medical documentation of a body mass index (BMI) of at least 18, Reuters reports. (In 2009, the average French woman’s BMI was 23.2.) People who employ models who fail to meet the requirement could face six months in prison and a fine of €75,000

You definitely of BMI is American standard (averagely overweight). If you visit Asia or Europe, this number is not uncommon. In fact, I am also 5'6", since college day to about 45 years back, I was 120lb.

5'6" / 120 lbs is a BMI = 19.4 and is well within the normal range

And the point I was trying to make is that if you choose a sufficient data outlier, you can "validate" most any point. Casey's "warning" was absurdly general. Children may have that BMI that low, someone of that physique are also unlikely to be need (or comfortably manage) an AL80, an AL60 is a much more sensible choice

This diver will need about 4 lbs of ballast, why? because an al 80 will be +4 empty in salt water.

A kydex plate and harness will be about -2 and his reg will be about -2, bingo.

His rig will be about - 6lbs with a full tank, and his suit is a non factor. That means he needs a wing great than 6 lbs of lift. In the DSS system that means a Torus 17 would be a reasonable choice.

Of course your diver is hugely atypical. Very few "zero" body fat types dive much without any buoyant exposure protection.

Any other tortured scenarios you'd like me to examine?
