I would prefer DD and others not to handle the wildlife, but I am to the point where I am not going to fuss about it. We can co-exist in harmony as far as I am concerned.

I do put my knees and/or hand gently down on the sandy/rubble bottom when I am trying to steady myself for a supermacro shot. Is that better or worse than gently playing with an eel?

Some of my photographer friends are constantly turning over rocks/shells to look for nudis. Definitely bad for the critters who live there or hide there during the daylight hours. I give them a hard time about it but it doesn't affect their behavior.

Some photographers are constantly moving critters to black pieces of plastic or to other locations for a "better shot" and those same photographers have been recently seen kicking other critters while trying to take pictures. They will claim innocence and say it doesn't harm the animals, however I personally would consider that worse than playing with an eel.

It is most disappointing when a cool critter disappears to die of starvation in someone's fish tank, but so long as it is not a prohibited species it is legal. I used to get steamed about this, and while I would prefer that collectors go to nearby areas to get the same critters, they could be just like me and not have a boat to do so.

That being said, it is a public space and we have to share it with others who might find different activities fitting their interests, and so long as it is legal try to exercise patience and understanding to the best of our abilities.

Lot of nonsense posts in this thread. The fact that there are worse things has nothing to do with whether something else is bad. I should not worry about somebody beating some body up because some body else killed 150 people?

As anybody who has raised a child knows bad behavior is contagious. It takes us a month to recivilize our grandson when he returns from spending Xmas with his feral cousins (other family members words)

Anybody who plays with wildlife encourages others, who may not understand the wildlife, to play with it.

Anybody who goes to bother somebody else while they are doing something they enjoy is a jerk trying to get attention

Fish are very smart about food choices. I like sharks but do not find shark feeding interesting. Might as well go to the aquarium.

Whether behavior is good/bad/indifferent has nothing to do with whether others are worse nor with whether the person is one of your buddies or has a boat you like to use.

this is so common of some photogs at the BHB, that unless I ignore it I do not get to enjoy my dive.

Thanks, I guess.... I actually made an effort to not handle any slimy critters on the last outing. Never the less, those sharp tail eels are constantly scraping their bodies, digging in under sand, rocks and everything else. I have a hard time believing that a gentle touch is going to harm them, particularly when released, they seem to be unstressed and to continue their previous activities rather than "run and hide".

I should add that I find it somewhat "interesting" that touching a few eels elicits so much negative feedback, yet a certain professional dive charter operation is frequently engaging in activities (that are illegal in the state) that are intended to yield unnatural photographs and videos and his activities seem to have wide spread support on here.

Of course I am talking about the perfect legal shark feeding activities which occurs just outside of the state limits in jupiter. Those interactions are "fine" but I'm BaaaaaaaaD.:shakehead:

OK, but you're one bad manicure away from a thread in Accident and Incidents that says EEL MOLESTER LOSES PART OF A FINGER...

This is a strange place. I put up probably my most innocuous BHB video to date and get more heat for it than any others?

  • I'm compared to Michael Vick
  • Dan Volker comes to my defense..
  • A Women threatens to do stab my child

  • :confused::confused::confused:

Anytime Dan comes to ones defense you should reevaluate your life choices.

Just saying.

I've got nothing against you...was trying to make a funny reference to Randy's thread earlier

But seriously Dude, you've been trolling in here with this stuff for years and you're surprised that people bite? Or is it just that they bit this time?
