Hi guys,

I currently work for a weather prediction company called Terra Weather which mainly deals with off shore oil rig weather prediction but we are interested in developing FREE software for scuba divers. I have a few questions that I hope the members here can help answer.

  1. How necessary is it to have weather prediction in scuba diving?
  2. What weather would be best for scuba diving?
  3. How far ahead do you guys plan your dives?
  4. I understand waves and undercurrents play a big role in safety so what is a safe wave height and what currents would cause a dicing trip to be cancelled?
  5. What information would you like to see available in a weather prediction system for diving?
  6. Would a companion mobile app that allows data to be stored on your phone be welcomed?
  7. Do you currently use any weather prediction websites/software?
  8. Would you be interested in testing the system when we have a beta version running?
  9. If you are interested to test this system can you provide us with some coordinated of your favourite dive spots so that we can get some test data up and running?

Thanks

:) sweet would be useful to have :)

-How necessary is it to have weather prediction in scuba diving? for running a dive center crucial
-What weather would be best for scuba diving? calm sea's :)
-How far ahead do you guys plan your dives? 1-3 weeks but even a good site about tomorrow's conditions useful
-I understand waves and undercurrents play a big role in safety so what is a safe wave height and what currents would cause a dicing trip to be cancelled? depending on the level of divers going out.
-What information would you like to see available in a weather prediction system for diving? , swell, swell intervals , current, wind direction, current direct, rain? , any other info that affects currents
-Would a companion mobile app that allows data to be stored on your phone be welcomed? yes but not needed
-Do you currently use any weather prediction websites/software? yes
-Would you be interested in testing the system when we have a beta version running? yes
-If you are interested to test this system can you provide us with some coordinated of your favourite dive spots so that we can get some test data up and running? Pondicherry India

1. On the same level as other outdoor activities.
2. Any weather is scuba weather
3. Depends, some dive-trips is very ad hoc, others is planed months in advance.
4. The only limiting factor is if the waves is to big for the boat to handle, if so we dive from land, or use a bigger boat.
5. The only parameters that concerns me when I go diving is wind, tides and wave height
6. My current weather app is more than good enough.
7. Real-time AIS weather reports
8. No
9. See above
