5.) Disney - people love it, but said to tend to be much more expensive than Royal Caribbean. On Cruise Critic, a number of people like Disney and Royal, but consider Royal the better 'bang for the buck, hey, I can afford this' option.

Are there actually people who go on a Disney cruise without kids????

The question should be, are there a bunch of adults that think they are still kids?
And the answer would be yes because I work with several full-grown adults that act like kids when it comes to Disney.

From what I recall from others' reports, I think Disney is supposed to have really good food and shows, and your dining room wait staff rotate with you though different dining rooms, the ship has an adults area but no casino, and there's more, but a trip over to CruiseCritic to the Royal Caribbean section and a look down at one of the Royal Caribbean vs. Disney threads will be informative. In a nutshell, Disney may be a slightly superior product, but the extra cost is more than slight. Or such is my understanding; I stick with R.C.

I never would have imagined that adults without kids with them would go on a disney cruise, I'll be damned! It would be like two adults going to Chuckie Cheese on date night.

We always take our dive gear with us on the cruise ships. Would much rather dive than go to the tourist traps.

I've done a couple on Royal Caribbean. Very nice. Did a 7-night Alaska cruise with them that was great, and a couple of short-hoppers down in the Caribbean. I enjoy RCCL.

I've also done Celebrity, and they were my personal favorite.

We recently finished a 10-night Southern Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines. That was very nice. I love Norwegian's Freestyle Dining! Other cruise lines could take lessons from NCL. You're not tied to any particular table, dining room, or time. Eat where you like, when you like.

Celebrity has a 14-night Southern Caribbean cruise out of S. Florida that I'm looking to take sometime soon. It's got 8 ports of call (including ABC); we'll basically use the cruise ship as our dive boat.

Agree with everyone else: get a balcony room.

Enjoy the trip!

The wife and I have done 12 cruises. Mostly in the Caribbean, but also the Mediterranean and one on the Yangtze River. We have cruised on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Dolphin and Costa that I remember. While all of them have been really great, we keep going back to Carnival. All of the cruise lines have comparable food, you would have a hard time telling the difference between the them. Most of the ships hit the same ports and the same excursions are available. BTW, we always book our own scuba trips with independent dive shops to avoid the over crowded boats. The level of service is virtually indistinguishable between the lines. We keep going back to Carnival because we like the younger crowds. They had a reputation, some years ago, of being a "booze cruise", I haven't seen that on any of my cruises. Yes their on board activities can be somewhat juvenile at times, belly flop contest, hairy chest contest etc. You don't have to participate and there is almost always an alternative activity.

Having been on other lines and seeing the type of people that are departing on the higher end lines, we prefer the less laid back atmosphere of Carnival. It has never been what I would call rowdy, more like fun loving and adventurous. It works for us. The balcony is the way to go if you can afford it. Not only is it romantic, you can dry your gear between ports.

Please take at least your regs and mask. We also take our fins as the rental ones are usually junk. If we are diving before or after the cruise we always take our full kits. Southwest Airlines allows two bags free. Have a great time no matter who you choose and remember, you make your own fun.

This is the one thing about cruises that you can't get across to anti-cruise people. If you're on a decent sized, newer ship you can always take part in every activity under the sun, from high octane booze party type, to cooking, to lecture, to mellow light activities like ping pong or shuffle board... or curl up in a quiet place and read a book and never be bothered, on the right ship there truly is something for everyone on a cruise.

Thinking way outside the box here but why would you go to the Caribbean on a cruise boat after you have been there numerous times diving? Nothing changed. Why not try a Alaska cruise or better yet a Viking River cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg or a Normandt France cruise. Not diving so do something different.
