At the very least, it would have been nice to save some of the discussions in Dark Magic Divers for whatever we transferred it to next.
As I told you earlier, none of us has any access through SB to the posts in Groups. In trying to backtrack to see which groups were still active, which had recent posts, and which were dormant so that I could try to figure out what we might be able to do to migrate any active groups to the remaining areas of the board, I was able to access cached files through web browsers and view all of the discussions of the public groups in that way. Of course I still couldn't see anything that had been discussed in Dark Magic since I was never a member, but perhaps you can see cached versions that I'm unable to view. It might be worth a try.

The other reasonable conclusion is that someone messed up and it was an accident and that they are now circling the wagon to protect the guilty.

Pate and Howard both hate me so I'm sure they are just like... ahh, f* em, who cares. No harm done.

But yes, the arrogance and rudeness shown is astounding. Maybe it's time for a honey badger video...
Now you're starting in with conspiracy theories and tossing around insults to my character? Can't you simply have a discussion with me in good faith rather than making every single thing so oppositional and personal?

No, it was not outstanding support. The issue was ignored for 5 days and I had to follow up. Repeated direct questions were avoided and a snarky defensive answer was finally given. You can blame me and think you were outstanding all you want though. The only reason I'm taking it to FaceBook is because I know I'll receive even more of this outstanding customer service if I request a sub forum to be made.

Have a nice day.
Yes, you have received outstanding customer service, even if you don't recognize it. During those five days I spent many hours looking for cached versions of every group's discussions, membership list, posts, and so on, and then searching out ways to accommodate those I found to be active. It was very time consuming as well as frustrating. But as you are concerned only with your group and have no thought for the dozens and dozens of other groups who are in precisely the same position your group finds itself in, you seem to think that we owe you some explanation. Here's the explanation: Stuff happens; c'est la vie. You want instant answers? Oh well. Repeated direct questions were posed as challenges. I chose not to take up the challenge as it would simply be pointless. If I'm defensive, it's because I've been set upon. You reap what you sow, chrpai, and you sow with an exceedingly aggressive and unpleasant style. You can't really expect to reap helpful and friendly responses when you start right out picking fights.

I will have a nice day, thank you. I tend to let unpleasantness of this sort just roll off.

Indeed you did; but given an inexplicably pointed refusal to say whether that lack of access came about by SB's choice or not, it's hard to say whether members' most reasonable reaction should be a 'gee, that stinks, guess we'll make do with what we can' or a 'WTF are you guys thinking in the SB business strategy department?! As a forum, access to relevant postings is part and parcel of what you offer members and (indirectly) the advertisers and sponsors who keep the lights on'.

Unlike chrpai, I can't care enough to make this particularly personal -- though I've not perceived the tone of your public and private communications to me as overly congenial -- but I have a low tolerance for BS and this weird lack of transparency falls into that category. If a member asked to see SB's financials or marketing strategy, I'd understand your 'who do you think you are?!' tone, but asking what happened when an established forum feature suddenly vanishes without warning (and expecting a straight answer) is quite a different request.

Still, I don't think I've demanded anything here. If you and SB choose to persist in the approach and tone you've exhibited in the last few posts...that's certainly your right. It's also all the answer any reasonable reader will need to see, IMO.

Quero, You really should get an objective third party to read the history for you.

You're first post indicated that you were looking into it. I let it go for 5 days in which no one posted a single message to give us updates. Now you can get defensive and say you don't owe us updates but you might want to google the topic of "managing the message". My next post was a very simple request for an update or are they gone for good. It just went down hill from there.

How am I supposed to know how much effort you put in if you don't tell me? And you don't know what I care or don't care about. I had users sending me PM's asking where DMD went and I was just coming to support to try to get answers.

I didn't reap anything. Once again you blame this all on me picking fights and you can't see your own personality flaws.

I wasn't a user of the Groups feature, nor did i participate in the HCT thread, but the removal of both of these should have been handled better and would have caused far less drama.

If the removal of the Groups feature was indeed intentional, surely a warning to those using it, locking it so users could read but not post etc could have been planned.

If it was unintentional, whether due to a software update or someone stuffing up, a simple, "it got broke, we're looking at fixing it, sorry" would probably have been generally accepted.

As for Quero spending her time and effort trying to recover what she could, chrpai's right, unless you tell people you are working on a solution, no-one knows nor can they appreciate it, again a simple update to the situation "we're still working on trying to recover the data/functionality" would have sufficient.

Greetings SB'ers.

Sorry, but I've been busy working on dive shows, and this is the first I've heard of this.

I've restored the data from the groups (it wasn't easy) for a few days.

Retrieve what you want, and then they're gone.

Howard,

Thanks for your effort to restore the groups!

How long will the groups be back for in order to retrieve whatever information we want to import into another form of group (ie. FB)?

And, if the groups have been restored, why would they be going away again?

The groups are exclusive, and ScubaBoard is all about being inclusive. Any of the topics should be able to be posted in a general forum, and not hidden from sight. You have a week to retrieve anything worth while. There isn't much in the groups at all. They were hardly used.

Wow. I know you (SB) doesn't care but I'm disappointed that apparently the conspiracy theorist were right...

Does this mean that "The Pub" will also be shut down? That is hidden from sight too.

Will Tek2Tek be removed as well? It was essentially the same as DMD with different entry requirements, and says right up front that it does not comply with what you just said was the reason for banning Groups:

This is a private forum with minimal moderation to allow open and frank discussions among tech diving peers on more advanced topics.
