Im looking for some setting tips for those that might be familiar with the following setup.
Point and shoot camera (DSC-W300 in a MPK-WD) with YS-D1 Strobe connected through a S&S fiber optic line. I also purchased a S&S adapter to attach the fiber optic line to the housing.
I have been diving with the W300 now for roughly 4 years with this body and finally felt the urge to get a strobe. I usually just set the camera to the SCN mode. Under the SCN mode there is a underwater setting.
My question is as follows:
-under SCN mode the camera does not do a pre flash. It just flashes
-under "P" and "M" mode it does a pre flash. ie it would flash then flash again while taking a picture (I assume it calculates the amount of mili seconds to fire the flash).
SO is SCN (underwater) mode still the mode I should be shooting in with the YS-D1? If not which mode, and why? This camera has no "A" or "S" mode. It does however have "P" and "M" but only has F2.8 to F8?
I guess the mode is important here because of how the strobe (YS-D1) reads the camera's flashes through the fiber optic cable.
If shooting in a mode other than SCN, say in "M" or "P", what other settings should be done? How does it affect the White Balance, should I leave it at auto WB or pick a certain WB (SCN mode provides underwater balance)?
Thanks in advance for any tips and guidance.
PS will be using the strobe next week in the Big Island of Hawaii, hence in need of some pre travel tips on using this brand new toy.
