I have to replace a regulator and am torn between the Zeagle Onyx cw and the cheaper XS Scuba RG 200.Suggestions?

Zeagle definitely; they actually design their regs, they are dependable and parts and kits are sold to the public.
XS probably just re-labels some stuff from Chinese guys :)

Thanks, elan,I have been waiting for house of scuba to get some Onyx's in stock,a tech diver friend recommended Zeagle!

I have worked with both XS Scuba and Zeagle reg sets. I bet they are likely made in the same factory in Taiwan (not Red China). I would suggest you invest in a quality reg from AquaLung (made in France), Apex (also AquaLung brand made in the UK), Scuba Pro, or even Oceanic. I know with the Aqualung brands you will have excellent worldwide service, and there are many Scuba Pro dealers as well. Don't think that Zeagle provides bang for the buck. Also, Zeagle now is owned by the same company that owns Atomic. Would not be surprised if Zeagle regs went away, as they would compete with Atomic regs being sold in by the same dealers. Just my opinion, but based on dealing with several thousand sets of gear in the past 3 years.

what is the point of eliminating zeagle regs? pistons possibly but diaphragm? Atomic does not even have diaphragm regs in the line up so there is nothing to compete with.

First off, Zeagle regulators are made in the USA not in Taiwan or China. You should do a little research before you post misinformation. Second, why would items made in the UK or France be of any better quality than items made in China? There are reasons why you don't see French or British cars (except the luxury marques) sold in USA. Their cars were of very poor quality. The Chinese can build anything as well as anyone else, if you are willing to pay them to do it right. BTW, the name is APEKS not Apex.

While you might not think Zeagles do not offer bang for buck when the Envoy came out it was named a "Best Buy" by one of the scuba mags. Zeagle also sells parts directly to the consumer which neither Aqualung, Apeks, Scubapro, or Oceanic does, so this an advantage for the DIYer. I do agree with you that Huish Outdoors could discontinue Zeagle regulators. However, it may not matter as long as parts are available.

Hi,AMS 511: I wrote to Zeagle and asked them if they made the Onyx in Zephyreville,Fla and also if they had been bought by Atomic ,strange as that seems.I'd rather have an American regulator than one made overseas;we have few enough good jobs as is.If they reply-I'll post it. Someone wrote that he'd been to the factory and seen manufacture of BCs but that the reg. shop was closed. Mike
