I have gadgets. Sometimes they don't work.

Posts that contain personal attacks are moderated/deleted/censored, which makes total sense to me.....we need to be able to argue/discuss without getting personal....but when the entire purpose of a forum is to promote scuba diving, shouldn't posts or posters that attack the sport/hobby/pastime with illogical arguments also be moderated/censored or banned ?

I consider scuba about as dangerous as anything else I do such as swiftwater and rope rescue and firefighting, however, through training, appropriate equipment and risk management, for me it becomes safer than walker to the shop..

Personal attacks, rude comments etc (especially in the "green forums" that have special rules to keep them very civil) are easy to detect. What an "illogical" post is is harder to define. I like that differing opinions are allowed to stand. I think despite the original post's slant, a lot of good information has been presented and new divers or those considering diving have been given a good dose of how most divers view safety, and some of the extremes of this sport/hobby/lifestyle/obsession.

Thanks merxlin....you're giving the OP more credibility than I would, but you make a good point.

Credibility or not, this thread was more interesting before it was edited.

agreed!! yes it was! "we need to be able to discuss without being personal" -->exactly!this is what an ideal forum should be.,
Discussions like these are what newcomers and lurkers are looking for, they learn a lot from candid discussions like these, it's spontaneous,NOT by the book(boring). it would be unfair if "M"s will keep on deleting/moving/editing/adding/tampering posts... mygad! let's be transparent to all the members please. let's give them a fair choice.

i think mathauck0814 is the only sensible person around here......next to me!:)

..hmmm,but he is a "Rebreather Diver"..does this mean that he inhales the same air that he exhales?? yuck!

back to the topic please...and avoid uneccessary comments, we are trying to educate newcomers here,if you don't mind.

YES mr. rescue, i undesrtand, i totally know where youre' coming from and getting at,,, but what i'm trying to say is that the NATURE of scuba diving is what's dangerous, the fact that your body is being submerged into a body of water, the density and the tremendous amount of pressure being applied to your body when under water say 300ft deep.,,some people suffer from heart attack/embolism/aneurism/explosion of arteries /decompresson syndrome under deep waters. you know how dense the water is and it's being applied to your body.,it's like hulk hogan squeezing your body,, i know a lot of divers who became paralyzed because they dive so deep., would you allow that to happen to yourself? THINK!

That's hilarious! It seems to me that you are the least sensible person in the entire thread, rovic, and all of the rest of us have been telling and telling and telling you how illogical your claims are, and yet you persist in calling your statements "educating newcomers." I'm of the opinion that a better forum for this thread would be the Humor forum, LOL. As for mathauck0814, I'm pretty sure you have misunderstood the intent of his post, rovic. I'm guessing that he just finds a barroom brawl sort of thread more entertaining than the sanitized one we now have.
