I am really advanced for my age. LOL. I figured its better to strive to be a tech diver than a strive to be recreational diver.

...Why?

Just a choice I made, I find tech diving to excite me more. Going into a wreck at 130', going into a cave system in Mexico on a CCR this appeals to me. Others want to drift down a reef. I am in no way saying anything bad about recreational. I know some great rec. divers who could do tech diving in a second. But it doesnt appeal to them.

Kinda hard to offer advice with talk of sidemount, wreck diving, CCRs and "tec diving" all kinda bandied about like they are important (they aren't they're just tools). How old are you anyway?

I have to ask... tools to achieve what??

No offence intended, but that sounds kinda pompous. Many people derive great enjoyment from these 'tools'. They don't see diving as some kinda 'important mission', for which all enjoyment and fun is secondary. Each to their own... but I love the 'tools'.

I have a lot of fun fiddling with sidemount configuration... it allows me to be inventive. Wreck diving appeals to my love of history...and wreck penetration is a challenge to the refinement of my diving skills. Rebreathers...I love the engineering and it provides me with an opportunity to learn and develop. 22 years of diving...I value anything that keeps my interest fresh and stimulated.

How about to dive?

I got bored of diving for the sake of diving about 20 years ago. I dive with a purpose. I gain enjoyment from new challenges...whether that be a demanding dive, ingraining new skills or mastering new equipment. I get a lot of joy out of tinkering with kit... I invent and make solutions to problems, refine configurations... it's great. I'm home-building/converting an mCCR unit this year... it's a lovely project and demands much learning on my part. That interests me. I'm just putting together my second and third homemade sidemount rig... again, so much fun.

People enjoy different aspects of scuba. For many, equipment is more than 'tools'... it's an active enjoyment in itself.

Heres a question, in side mount diving there common tank size most use ? Just looking to get an feel on what to be looking for. Maybe just some suggestions on my first tanks setups you guys have figured out tried and true setups. After AN/DP first training dives with my mentor are going to be 140' to look at a mining structure and will be in deco. Thanks
