Water in first stage Legend LX Supreme ACD

Hi! I just had one of our 2 regs on the second service/overhaul(do this once a year) by a qualified tech, but this time there was water in the 1st. stage. Thought this was impossible... I'm waiting eagerly for the service result for the other reg(wife's), as they have been used in aprx. the same conditions and number of dives.. I guess this will be covered by the warranty? I live in a Nordic country, and the regs were bought in 2010, and have +/- 100 dives, most in warm water..

I could be wrong but my understanding is the ACD stops water entering the first stage if dust cap is not fitted, I would imagine water could still travel into the first stage from the LP hoses, if for example, you rinsed regs unpressurized and hit the purge button. Like I said I could be wrong hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. Did you talk to the reg tech about this?

Or from a tank valve that had accumulated some water, perhaps during the boat ride.

I agree with Buddhasummer, the most likely cause is hitting the purge valve while rinsing with air turned off. A good swishing of the 2nd stage will also activate the purge valve and if the air is off you would get water into the hose. Then when you lift the 2nd stage above the 1st, you have water in the 1st stage. Other possibility would be a lot of water in the tank, enough to overcome the sip tube, and you being inverted in the water. There could have also been water in the tank valve opening and you did not bleed a little air to blow out any contaminates before putting on your 1st stage.

Hmm. I'll talk to the tech when I pick up the second kit... as Buddhasummer says, water may have entered through the LP hose/2nd. Mostly , I have rented tanks abroad, and from mostly well known companies, so I don't think that's the issue!

What's the verdict on the second set? I've been told by my tech that I shouldn't use the dust cap as that allows water to leak into the first stage as it partially open the ACD while you're tightening the dust cap.
I have not got a good answer from Aqualung, they keep referring me to the Japanese rep who cannot answer properly....

That's good advice, and if you insist on using a dust cap replaced the dust cap with one from the 2012 Legend cap is it does not have this issue.

The dust cap on my Legends got torn off at some point during a dive a few years ago and I never worried about it enough to replaced it... though you should see the looks when I dunk it in the rinse tank without a cap.

The second set was OK. I think one reason for the leak may be that I use a yoke adapter sometimes when abroad, and left it on :-(
After the leak incident, I always remove the adapter....

Or you could just put the dust cap on the adapter, that's what i usually do when on liveaboards. Haven't had any problems at all this far.
