Hi,

This is kind of short notice, but my usual buddies are off doing some repairs to their house this weekend. I'm looking for a buddy to meet up with and dive in Taivassalo quarry this weekend, or weekends in the future.

I would go there to practice on my Sentinel CCR with the permission of my instructor. Visibility is very good. It can be seen from here http://www.sukellus.info/sukelluskohteet.shtml

It's quite shallow (max depth I found was about 7 or 8 meters) but very good for buoyancy practice and drills.

I can provide the GPS coordinates if needed.

BR.

I'd like to make a trip there with some friends, hopefully in Oct. But I had understood that this place was about 25 meters deep? Isn't this the place also called "Palin Granit" or "Helsinginranta"?

Do you need to get a key to open up some kind of gate?

I don't think it's this deep. I haven't explored the entire quarry but I found most of it was around 8 meters at maximum. Maybe it's possible to find deeper places but I cannot go deeper than 8 meters when I'm practicing with my CCR without my instructor.

According to Suomalaiset sukelluskohteet yes, it is.

No. There is a gradual ramp going down to the water. Unfortunately it's just off to the right side of this photograph: http://www.sukellus.info/pics/ahainen.jpg

It's a pretty easy entry. You can park your car nearby and there are some large square granite rocks which are great if you're putting on heavy equipment (twinset or rebreather) then just walk down to the water, put on your fins/bailout in water, and off you go.

There are some small fish and some green vegetation on the bottom. Unfortunately I don't have an underwater camera.

If you are interested in diving there, I know two other people who would possibly join... However they do not have drysuits so perhaps it's too cold for them. I will ask them anyway. :)

I think wetsuit weather already came & went for this year. Very appropriate for the outdoors this fall, but too cold underwater.
I know some guys who were there maybe 6 yrs ago. It was at least 20m then. They said the vis was exceptional. Very nice to know that there isn't a gate to worry about. We will try to organize a day trip in Oct or Nov, want to visit Helsinginranta and Uhlu. I'll talk to someone from Rauma's club about joining us & can send you a note too when we have a date.

This says depth is 25m. With the weather we've had this summer and fall maybe it's 40m by now...

This is prob. getting beyond general interest now. Unless it's something folks in general might like to know let's switch to private messages.

Sounds good. Apologies sorry about the slow reply.
