It took until page 5 and Rooster's post to deal with an omitted part of this important discussion. Gas expelled into the wetsuit may be trapped there (see Mike_s' photo earlier in this thread) That can lead to a buoyancy issue, so you need to release the gas a second time, as it were. I suppose you could stretch out the neck or your wet suit for the release, but I too prefer some means other than past my face, even if it is my gas. As far as you dry suit folks, well, I guess you're stuck with it until the surface. At least then you can share with others in the area! BTW, I loved reading this thread. Not everything on scuba board has to be a physics lesson or equipment review.

I'm racking my brain, but in the last 20 years, I honestly don't remember farting, sharting or anything else anal related occurring during a dive.

Only two kinds of divers. Those that fart underwater and those who lie about it. Quite frankly, I've always wondered whether any of my buddies noticed those stray gas bubbles making their way out of the wrong end of my shorty...

Some facts: Average person farts about 14 times daily. About .5 liters of gas. The gas is mostly nitrogen and only a tiny amount of methane.

Average person isn't at 20-30m, with all air-spaces and contained gas compressed by 2-3 times volume...

I just don't remember farting on a dive. Urinating yes. Farting.. nope.
