Hello again,

thank you for all the comments and feedback. To everyone who has issues or troubles with our products (such as straps, usability), I sincerely encourage you to contact our highly efficient and professional Suunto Helpdesk (Contact Us | Suunto). Why? You get answers quicker and we can actually do something about them when we know who you are. Complaining on anonymous discussion boards doesn't really give us a chance to help you to get e.g., a replacement strap. :blinking:

Regarding DM4 - as promised earlier we've delivered crisper graphics, tissue sats, dive info view, pdf prints for logs and dive plan (Windows), zooming, real gas calculation.... and we're constantly developing more features. Also we've just delivered the Mac compatible version of DM4 (Suunto DM4 with Movescount | Suunto). Like I mentioned in my earlier posts the work continues and we welcome all improvement suggestions.

Enough said - but I'd just like to add that Suunto attends DEMA next week and if you're coming too, let's go and have a cold beverage and discuss good diving. You can find us at the AQL booth.

i'm an IT
so, before launching a new version, i have to be sure the new version has at least the same functionnalities as the previous.

imagine, if i told my "customers" : sorry , it's a new version, you can lay-off the workers until the next release , the factory cannot work actually.

it is only common sense.

Pia,

I just downloaded the latest version of DM4 and it is still full of holes. Some of the new features that you talked about simply don't work (dive saturation and print to PDF). I'm a software engineer so I'll try to capture the issues as best as I can and report them through your help desk.

print to PDF is working, but a very bad management of dates
in France the default date separator is / , so the suggested filename is "Dive 05/06/2011.pdf", but the / is not allowed by the operating system :D

other : why have to download/relaunch the setup to have a new version ?
it's .dot net framework, and it's possible to have an automatic download of new version

i'm sure, we use it at work and fortunately, 3 thousand of users will be automatically upgraded next week !

DuboisP,

I've sent a list of about 15 issues that I have with DM4 to Suunto as Pia requested. I can print if I change the filename.

Firstly, I agree with everything said!!! Seems very limited to editing and organising your dives as you would expect from an electronic version of a dive log. I have disconnected from movescount as I see no real benefit for this. I have been using the 'notes' tab to include all information from dive site to visibility to buddies etc.

Just tried dm4. Noticed much info was missing after import, toyed around trying to find it for a bit, and came here.

Dm4 is very frustrating. If an average user such as myself cant find a way to log dive buddies, or the name of the dive site...

This should be on the casebooks for how marketing blunders can ruin a company's perception with its customer base... Suunto, I can't find one single positive comment on DM4 or on movescount relating to diving. Does this tell you something?

Hi I have just moved my log to DM4 (reluctantly I might add) Why?

Because my DM3 logbook has fallen victim to the dreaded “floating point overload” so I had lost the profile graph and cumulative statistics such as total dive time, depth etc.

Initially I thought “no problem I will simply use the database backup”; no such luck it has also been corrupted somehow!!!

I wrote to the Suunto no help desk; their response was, in essence, too bad, how sad, use DM4.

I thought what the h*** so (with some trepidation) I downloaded DM4 and transferred my dives and lo and behold the dive profile graphs are back, go figure.

Unfortunately I have lost the additional info such where the dive was and who I did with etc.

So if I am going to have to manually reload this data (luckily for relatively small number of dives) I am now seriously thinking about a new computer and different software.

Really Suunto what are you thinking!!!!!

Cheers

Ausdiver,

What is the dreaded "floating point overload"? Have you tried to get the latest version of DM3 and import your backup database into it?

Donaldsa,

The "floating point overload" is a message advising that the database has tried to use a number bigger than it can handle. As I understand it (a dubious concept I agree) it means the database is corrupted, in an IT sense rather than legally!

This is the response I received from Suunto:

Dear Sir/Madam,
thank you for contacting Suunto.

We are sorry to hear about the issue you have experienced with the Dive Manager 2.7.0. It seems that the data base file of the software has been corrupted in which case it is unfortunately not way to retrieve the lost profile datpossible (sic) to retrieve the lost details of your dives.
Please note that the development of the Dive Manager has now been discontinued so we are no longer able to provide tech support for it. Please start using the new on-line based DM4 with Movescount software which can be downloaded from www.movescount.com\applications\dm4.

With best regards,
Suunto Helpdesk

Ausdiver55, maybe you can try to import your data from 2.7 into 3.1, which is still available for download. That might clean up the corruption, and it's certainly better than DM4 as it is now. Let me know if you need the link to 3.1
