Greetings fellow Scuba Boarders the timing of this topic is very ironic as it was one of the major issues discussed at our local club M&G this past week end.
It became very obvious that some spec. were a bit foolish but some pretty descent.
One thing is certain they generate $$$$ for the agencies and new divers seem to tend to want to collect cards rather easily. "It is a mentality that can be dangerous!"

In the 2-3 hours we talked about it over campfires two evenings the idea that a card only states you have been taught the skills but not necessarily perfected them!
Experience and in water training time apart from actual class perfecting the afore mentioned skills are where the real learning takes place.
This idea dictates that you are a more frequent diver who takes more than vacation opportunities to hone skills.
I am not trying to steel any thunder from the humor part because we came up with some great ones.

SPECIALTIES;

Vintage Diver ; Hoarse Collar required!
Relief Valve Operator; Balanced or Unbalanced
Diaper Wearer: Methods and Techniques to avoid the saggy diaper!
Drunk Diver: Nuff Said
Christmas Tree Diver: Requirements to be diving the top ten items for REC diving by SCUBA magazine!
Super Model Wet Suit Diver: How to look like the Models in the Wet Suit ads in the diving magazines.

The list was long and humorous as you can imagine but it comes easy when you are around some older divers who were diving before there were agencies to award cards!
I love these guys they bring a ton of experience and stories to the table.
If even those fellows can learn new things and earn new specialties one of which recently earned his Solo cert I find myself inspired.
Great guys and much can be learned from them as well as the experiences they had in the early days of scuba.

UW musician (acoustic)
UW musician (ummm, electic?)

Sounds like perfect courses, the waters are full of musical fish:

Guitarfish
drum
bass
banjo catfish
trumpetfish

What do you do if all you can find are NAUI and SSI lobsters?
I understand the cross-over procedure involves a tickle stick, a cooler, a vat of boiling water, and drawn butter.

Underwater Pole Dancer

Coed Naked Diving Specialty. Might be my only chance:D

... then you'd have to take a "Managing Danglies" specialty ...

Pseudo tech diver speciality

What gear and configuration do you need to have to be seen as a tech diver on the boat before the dive.
