I will be in Grand Cayman on a cruise this February. Does anyone know of any dive shops there that are doing dives on the Kittiwake? I realize there will not be any coral yet, but a wreck this size in water this shallow is very attractive to a recreational diver like me.

Pretty much all of the west side dive ops will offer dives on the Kittiwake. Due to a finite number of moorings not all ops will be able to offer the dive every day. I am not sure how that will be worked out or how to advise you which operator to select if you are only here one day.

I would probably take a boat, BUT from the looks of the distance to shore, one could paddle half way on the surface, take a navigation bearing, drop to the bottom and find it underwater. ALTHOUGH, if the currents were kicking, you may want to turn back and try another day.

How did she finally land on the bottom? And how deep?

She landed straight up and from the looks of some of the other video's I have seen I would guess 60-70 feet to the sand.

She landed straight up on her keel. i spoke with someone you has done this dive. She said she recorded 53 feet to the sand.

Demand is going to be tempered for awhile by CITA's plan to charge $8/diver to make a dive on it ($4 per snorkeler). Just goes to show us how the Caymans have done a poor job in managing finances since the 356 was sunk in 1996.

I'd be tempted to do it as a shore dive, just to watch CITA try to demand a collection

It is next to the Doc Polson & Marty's Wall both of which we have shore dived from Cemetery Beach.
