Seriously, the Cobalt is one beautiful and expensive piece of gear, and I'm surprised no one at Atomic thought to come up with some sort of branded cover.

Would that make it a theft magnet, though? Sometimes it's wise to store valuables in unobtrusive housings. I've heard that about notebook computers.

Richard.

I have never been any place that theft was a problem. I was thinking more of a cover to protect it from scuffing inside my nice embroidered Scubapro :banana::banana::banana: reg bag. I guess I will use an old gym sock to protect my Cobalt. No one would ever want that so I guess the thief will go for my A700 instead. Heck I would even be willing to pay for a nice cover if it was available. Maybe it is just me, I like to take care of my stuff especially this high dollar stuff.

When can we expect the firmware update and log software to be availible?
The dive log software for Windows is supposed to be up on the website within the next few weeks- The Mac version will be sometime after the 1st of the year. We are working with the MacDive folks to provide download capability to their program as well, but that will also be after the 1st of the year.

As to when firmware updates are released, I can't say. So far the changes that we are putting in are fairly minor interface issues, like showing surface interval in the log for all dives. We will want to make sure they are well tested prior to releasing them. I would expect that sometime before spring we will put them in to a release version and make them available- it could be sooner.

New to the boards, but glad to find this thread here.

I just picked up my Cobalt yesterday. Loved the ease of interaction, the intuitive design, and the general level of awesomeness that I saw. I really can't wait to try it (hopefully next week).

With all that said, I'm disappointed that the owner's manual states, "...check the Atomic Aquatics website...for current information regarding the availibilty of download software." Later, in regards to the firmware, "Check the Atomic Aquactics Website... for available downloads and the most current information regarding how to obatin these updates."

That's my biggest gripe! There's actually no information on the website regarding anything! It took a while on google to realize I wasn't going nuts, and/or the LDS didn't accdentially leave the CD out of the box.

How about a "We're working on putting out our software package" note on the page? Or maybe a "Most current version of firmware is 1.XX" header at the top of the support/download tab, lest we all dive with bad firmware?

Other than that, thanks for putting out the Cobalt!!

You make an excellent point. Obviously, the manual was done long before the download software, but there should be something on the website to let users know the status. I will pass this along. Thanks.

As much as I love all things Atomic, the website always lags behind what they're actually doing.

I picked up my Cobalt Saturday and Atomic has really raised the bar with this computer. I can't speak for all computers on the market but to me, this is by a long shot the best I have been exposed to. Instead of having to comb through 80 pages of two column users manuals, the Cobalt is 45 pages with large print and nice high color depictions of the various settings available. The display is simply amazing and as all things Cobalt it all makes sense and is laid out extremely well. It has been stated that the computer is so simple to set up you don't need to read the manual. I tried that and it is really that simple to make all your settings. In fact it is so simple a cave man can do it.

Kudos to Atomic for having developed such a nice product. I still can not understand why it has taken so long for the industry to finally developed a product that a recreational diver can use without out a degree in rocket science.

The only thing missing, as I have mentioned before, is a nice cover for it.
