My fiancé and I are looking at key west for our honeymoon next may. We are on a tight budget so I am looking for advice on good hotels, dive outfits, flats fishing outfits, and anything else fun to do there for a reasonable price. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Key West is not what I would describe as a budget destination, especially in the high season. And you have not the cheapest tastes in entertainment. A two tank dive here runs from $79 (your own gear and tanks) to as high as 150 (rental gear and guide included). Flats fishing runs from $250 to $600 for a 1/2 day charter depending on how good you want the fishing to be. Hotels like the Days Inn are $179-$259 per night that time of year. If you are looking for budget, I'd suggest Mexico or the Florida Panhandle. If you want to come here, a bicycle or Kayak rental is $25 to $50 per day.

I looked at a few hotel/flight packages for 6 nights and I can get one for 1800-3000. That is within our budget. I didn't really specify my budget but I think we can get by spending close to 3000.

I love Key West, although I agree with Wookie.....A budget destination it isn't. There are a ton of little hotels and the big names....The big names have the views, etc. The smaller, local ones may be slightly cheaper.... Check out Florida Keys vacation | Florida Keys travel information

If you are driving from the mainland..... Key Largo has great dive operators and my favorite (Amoray) often has specials if you pre-buy....might be worth checking websites. I dove Looe Key Resort once....nice operation there (about 20 miles out of KW), but a 3 tank dive wasn't cheap but I forget the price....but was good reef diving.

I am not a fisherman, but I believe Marathon (about 1/2 way down the Keys) is the "Sport Fishing Capitol of the world" they claim... :-)

Even if your budget reduces some of the playtime...The keys are a great place to go and I couldn't think of a better honeymoon destination than KW!!!

Also remember...there is a lot more to the Florida Keys than Key West!

Congratulations on the Marriage!!!

And I wasn't trying to be a dick, it's just very expensive here. And the local hotels haven't figured out we're in a recession. The Holiday Inn just went under, and other hotels are enjoying a 10-15% occupancy rate, but they won't lower their prices. Whatever. If you will go headboat fishing instead of flats fishing, and do a dive trip combined with a couple snorkling trips, and spend an afternoon at the museums and on a kayak instead of some of the more expensive adventures, I think you'll do very well. There is plenty to do here, and reasonable priced, but days of diving and flats fishing just isn't it.

What is headboat fishing? I wouldn't mind doing some snorkeling along with a dive or two. Thanks for the great info so far guys.

A headboat. A boat you get on with 50 of your closest friends and all of you throw a line in the water hoping for a nibble from some poor yellowtail. I wouldn't be caught dead on one, but I don't fish with a pole either, unless it's for brook trout in Maine. Also known as a party boat. $45 for a morning or afternoon trip. Pole and bait included.

Remember , Key West has always benn Land of the Pirates. Only now they take your Master card, not your first born son:D

Any spearfishing outfits there? May be more expensive but I could knock out the fishing and diving on one trip

Consider Key Largo, over key west. room rates are better, check out key west inn, in key largo, or marine del mar resort. Also check out silent world dive shop, you can buy 5 dives for 300.00 includes weights and tanks.
