Hi there,

Anyone has dived @ Pulau Besar before? I'm going there this weekend...
Do you have dive shops to recommend? Let me know the website/contact too as my resort do not have a dive shop there..

And of cos, what do i have to look out for @ the dive sites?? :D

Thanks a bunch!! ;)

Well, I'm back from Pulau Besar. Just thought of dropping a note....
Am quite disappointed that there isn't any dive shop operating on the island itself. - Only an empty diveshop.
Felt a little cheated as the brochure I got from the travel agency stated that diving is available. If you want to do snorkelling, you need to bring your gears there too.
But of cos, all's not lost because I'm a beach bum. Enjoyed the quietness of the island & other cos the SEA! ;) + watching the crew of a tv reality show on that island walking to & fro from the resort to the forest.... :D

I almost booked my holiday to Pulau Besar too, only to be informed by the resort people that the resort was closed for the Scandinavian Survivor thingy.

This was back in May or June I think.

Well, they were still there when I went there in Early August... I think they booked 1 whole resort to themselves and spill-over to the resort I was staying...

That's weird. How come they totally turned away my booking inquiry? Maybe next year's new season I'll go to Pulau Besar. Saw some nice photos of the island.

Yup. The island is nice with beautiful sunset. :) Took lots of pictures while i was there since i've got nothing to do! :07:
I stayed in D'coconut that time but i think Aseanic is better... but it was fully booked..

Hi!
I have (already) fly tickets to Singapore for time around 03-04/2011... And Pulau Besar is one "possible" destination... So, do anybody have more up-to-date information about diving conditions at Pulau Besar?

Thank you!

Hi!
I didn't get the chance to dive in Pulau Besar that time so I can't really comment.

If you are looking for diving - maybe you can consider Pulau Tioman which is a more popular diving destination (about 1.5hrs more hour further from P. Besar).
Do note that monsoon period for these islands is around Oct/Nov to Feb/Mar.
Might be good that you can visit the islands in April just to make sure it won't be a wasted trip. If not, do check with the dive shops if the monsoon has ended.

PS: There's lots of other diving destinatios in Malaysia - Redang, Sipadan, Layang Layang etc that you might want to explore..

Have fun! :)

Hi!
Thank you for you information. Yes, it's mainly first weeks of April when I'm there, hopefully it's not raining that much anymore.. :D
(so my trip is little over two weeks long...)

Pulau Tioman would be nice too, except that it's expensive mass tourist place and staying there weeks would cost quite much.. But I will check it anyway.
Redang - nice, but little bit too far north when you arrive to Singapore, but yes, will consider that too.
Sipadan - would be nice, but wrong island! Maybe next time. :)
Layang Layang? Where is that.. Couldn't find it.. Except Layang Layang Island Resort what was middle of Kuala Lumpur (city)...

Not sure where you found that Tioman is expensive - There are a many budget places targeting the backpacker crowd, e.g. ABC beach
