We were there too but underwater when it was all heppening. So sad indeed. My prayers and thoughts to the family as well.

My condolences to the family and friends. It is very sad to hear this.

According to Buffalo Grove Boy Scout dies while scuba diving - Chicago Breaking News he was on a Boy Scout outing and what I am questioning is that it states, "The divers realized the boy was missing after conducting a regular safety check in which each of the participant surface and a head count is conducted, Taylor said. The group was unable to locate a bubble trail to find the missing diver, and then enlisted the outfitter in the search" It almost sounds as if they didn't have assigned buddies - do they just expect everyone to follow along and keep up with the group??? It's a bit late to do a head count on the surface and find that you are missing someone. Very sad!

Don't ever trust the media is good advice. But I would find it easy to believe that the group did not have assigned buddies based on the training classes I have seen too much of. It is common for divers to be led single file with no one really buddied up. Frankly I'm surprised we don't have many more incidents like this.

What part of the quarry was he diving in?

We were diving with my nephew yesterday at Haigh Quarry in Illinois when a young man was brought to the dock. He was unresponsive. The paramedics were there in a very short time and performed CPR for quite a while. After he was taken away, the chaplain told me there was still hope because the water was cold. He also said the man had plenty of air left in his tanks. There were was talk that he got separated from his group.

It was a terrible experience. If anyone has any information on his condition, please share it.

I'm sorry to tell you but the Boy Scout 'Ken' did pass away in the accident.

My brother is a good friend of Ken's father.

Please say a prayer for Ken, his family and those that were there with him.

I saw something like this a few years ago at Haigh. It's something you never forget.

Regardless of it applies to this case....new divers especially...stay with your buddy..if the crap hits the fan you have a better chance of surviving.

This is so tragic...anyone know if there will be a memorial or anything done at the quarry in rememberence?
