But here's the BIG news. While we were there, the staff was informed that the current company leasing the FIBR property will not renew their lease in October. The owner of the resort is going to take over again and I am told he plans to make a major investment in making improvements to the resort. That's all I know for now, but I have high hopes for the future of FIBR :D

Hmm, I think it was a lend-lease so the rent may not have even been very high.

Thanks for the report and pics! Can't wait to hit the Island for my first time in August :D
What is your u/w camera set-up (if I may ask) ?

Sure you may ask :D

It's a SeaLife DC800 with housing and Digital Pro Flash.

Glad to get your report and hear that the diving was great.
Was the food really bad? Was there stuff you can eat? haha...
Do people ever go into West Bay or West End for dinner? Do you know what it cost to take taxi to either one?
We stayed West Bay last year and hope we won't be dissappointed...

Lynn, we still managed to gain a couple of pounds :D Breakfast is really good. You can get them to whip you up an omelette with all kinds of good fixins. But I can't do that because I'm the poster child for seasickness...I have to stick to peanut butter toast in the morning  Lunch was always a disappointment, but they've got burgers if you don't like anything else. Dinner was acceptable, but barely. The bright spot was that they made chocolate ice cream for me EVERY DAY...hence the weight gain :dontknow:

Sorry, I don't know about taxi fares...we usually hang out with buddies on the island ;)

b

did they set it up for you or did you do it on your own? I would like to go one day and say hello to people we met in West Bay who worked there and there were good lobster dinner I would like to go back to. I just read a bunch of reviews on tripadvisor from people that have stayed at FIBR in the last month and they said the food wasn't bad.
While our major thing is diving.... not eating as long as it is edible I am good....happy with fruit and pasta...
Thanks
Lynn

Lynn -

Talk to the divemasters...they will help you out ;)

Really? Any more information you can share with us?

No, I don't know anything.

It was what the DM told me, along with the hopes of improvement the current management had. There has been talk of the new boat engines and other fix'ns that I know nothing of.

Gotcha...yep I had heard that the current management company was going to make significant improvements as well, but it has been a VERY rough couple of years in Roatan. Guess it didn't pan out the way they hoped. Let's hope things on the island rebound nicely and everybody does well again.

Yeah I was thinking on the last day Friday of making a trip after our dives. Did you dive on Friday?
What time did your flight leave Roatan? How many dives did you do a day?

We were there from Monday to Monday. Yes, we did dive on Sunday morning since our flight out on Monday wasn't until 1:00 pm. Even with 26 hours before flying, hubby ended up with a case of "Skin Bends". He just took a 5 hour ride in our local hyperbaric chamber - no fun

We did three dives a day with the exception of Sunday, when we only did the two morning dives. Oops - we only got to do two dives on Saturday courtesy of Tropical Storm (now hurricane) Alex.

That stinks about your husband. How did that end up happening? At least the storm didn't hamper much of your diving...
