Dive rite mr11 sunspot hid??

Hi,

Just found one of these for sale at a reasonable (but not cheap) price - $325

A few questions as I realise they are a discontinued product now:

Worth buying??

Upgradeable or convertable?

Better alternative product???

They are discontinued & Dive Rite will gladly upgrade it to an LED light,.... for a fee. Personally I still like the HID's, I have 2 of them with NiMH batteries. While the technology for LED's has come a long way, they IMO still can not quite keep up with an HID. You can find bulbs (Solarc) & ballasts around, though you must hunt. The bulb for the UK light cannon is the same for the 10 watt HID's. As for ballasts, some friends of mine found a company that makes them & they bought several, but I can not remember the name of the company now because they were bought out recently. They also mentioned that since the buy- out that prices have increased dramatically for the parts. If you are willing to do the research to find the parts you may need, yes, $325 isn't too bad a price. Most of the light companies are going to LED's at an alarming rate. I also know Light Monkey also has HID lights, but they are a bit on the pricey side.

I can't comment on the MR11, but I think 10 watt HID has been selling at or slightly below $300 range. My friend picked up a brand new Diverite HID 1000 (15 watt) for $500 last year.

You can convert it to LED yourself, I did one for a friend that had a bad bulb and ballast.

I have been trying to get a ballast. Major pain!

There was a guy on CPF that did a Ushio Solarc NRG group buy in January via Ushio and got a lot of orders. I havent been able to make any progress contacting Ushio, unfortunately. Maybe he might think about passing on the details of his Ushio rep if we get in touch- i sent a pm a couple weeks ago but havent got a reply yet.
