Horizontal Obsession

Ditto - to a point.

Although I would have not put so strongly. However, there many excellent and highly skilled divers that simply choose to dive in their own fashion and for the same reason I do, fun and enjoying the wonder of it all.

Ditto ... to WHAT point? When did this become yet another soapbox for an anti-DIR rant? Oh ... wait ... I forgot ... as long as it's not an anti-PADI rant, it's allowed on ScubaBoard.

Horizontal positioning has never been exclusively a DIR thing ... but the anti-DIR POV Warriors are not given the same treatment by NetDoc and the ScubaBoard staff that other posters on the board are being held to ... they get to rant whenever and wherever they feel like it, even when it is irrelevent to what's being discussed.

Be honest ... if the half-dozen or so people that NetDoc likes to label POV Warriors posted in the EXACT SAME MANNER as Nemrod ... but substituted PADI for DIR ... their posts would be pulled, the thread would be locked, or they would be banned.

Just how exactly did you discover my secret plan to infiltrate the DIR ranks and infuse a little humor? Was it my flip fins? How about my ProPlus2 computer? Oh, wait! It must have been my Red Venture wing on my WTX harness. Damn it, I knew I should have bought the black one.:shocked2:

Seriously, If you think I'm anti anything, you are simply incorrect. I'm all about being safe and having fun both underwater and on Scubaboard.

I follow the same procedure. I'm usually horizontal because I'm usually swimming horizontally, but sometimes I swim up, down or at an angle because that's the direction in which I'm headed.

The only people I've ever seen who never dive horizontally are the ones who don't know how ... and I usually prefer to help them learn how ...

I ain't talking about you ... I'm talking about Nemrod. What I don't understand from you is why you're agreeing with him.

Personally I don't give a damn what equipment you choose to dive in. Wish I could say the same in return ... but you DO have a history of starting threads for the not-so-subtle purpose of making "statements" about people who make different choices than you do ... why is that? Why should you care?

My first open water dives eons ago were in Louisiana's Lake Pontchartrain, a brackish estuary located in southeastern Louisiana. It is the second-largest saltwater lake in the United States, after the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and the largest lake in Louisiana. It covers an area of 630 square miles with an average depth of 12 to 14 feet. The bottom is a black silty mud than can be stirred up by the slightest disturbance. Excellent visibility is 8 to 10 feet but only occurs after a week or more of light to no wind and rainfall. Average vis is 2 to 3 feet.
I learned very quickly how to navigate this lake without stirring it up especially on the rare 10 foot vis days. Even horizontal doesn't cut it. I am generally at a 45 degree head down position using the gentlest of finning to move about. The nearest part of me to the bottom are my finger tips.

Bob, I think you went a little over the top here.

Nemrod did make an anti-DIR statement, which he has done before. It was more against a perceived attitude among certain posters. It was actually somewhat on topic, since he was saying that an obsession with diving horizontal is a DIR rule. Whether he is right or not would make an interesting response.

I would hesitate to equate one comment in one post in a long thread with what has been called being a POV warrior.
