Do these experts have some sort of scientific study that show better performances?

A friend of mine did his doctoral thesis at MIT proving through various studies, models, data, etc that...

"Bats Cannot Fly"

Though his analyis "proved" that bats cannot fly, he did include the caveat that "anecdotal evidence to the contrary suggests a need for further study of this matter."

:shocked2:

Studies and data are great... up to a certain point.

Thanks for reminding me of my love-hate relationship with academia.

It just cracks me up that pretty much everything related to split fins in this thread was handled quite peacefully, but somehow the thread split off into something else that turned into a heated debate.

This HAS to be a SB first!

Do you have any better method to evaluate the world around us?

Science is self correcting. Peer reviewed articles and researchers are the key. Sure some scientists mess up but goes back to peer reviewing and ability to recreate any good scientific study.

Nah, science has degenerated into political posturing. Data bent to meet some agenda. Like it or not, it's the truth. Scientists across the globe now cling to their theories in the face of undeniable evidence to the contrary, just to save face or appease some political faction.

The sad truth.

That's a pretty broad condemnation considering the magnitude and breadth of the worldwide scientific endeavor. You actually might be right with respect to about 0.0001% of science, however.

It's probably broad when considering the entire scientific community. I'll grant you that. But I think not, when it comes to those out there publishing something important to pundits.

Evidently his analysis need a little more work;)

My CalTech physics professor also proved the a top fuel dragster would never, regardless of horsepower, ever be able to accelerate fast enough to go quicker that 5.5 seconds in a 1/4 mile. (I was there in Texas, 1988 when Eddie Hill made the first sub 5 second pass.) His calculations also need a tune up.

However, with fins, a real study would only prove what fin style worked best in a narrow set of circumstances.

Here's my study, I tried lot's of fins. I bought the ones I liked. But the gap in performance between the best and worst fin was simply not that big.

Yup.
