Ok, I am not to concerned about it, just wanting to check myself out and I am trying to start swimming for fitness so I figured I was at least ok on it while I was in the pool anyway. Thanks for all the quick reply's.

Before doing the 15 m underwater swim try to relax for few mins (usually 2 mins its enough). Inhale/exhale 20-25 times. Inhale 2s / Exhale 4s...Inhale 4s / Exhale 8s..... Inhale 6s / Exhale 12s. Try to do at least 10 reps 6/12. When you finish the last round....Inhale and go. You`ll perform 50% better by doing this exercise. Good luck!

Breaststroke seems to be the easier style to do. 10 mins / 275m is a decent swimming time.

it does not to me... the reason of shallow water blackout is low oxygen level due to not breathing as the CO2 level is very low due to hyperventilating and does not pressure one to take the next breath. You cannot hyperventilate with the recipe he gave
 
why do you insist? have you done that exercise and its not good? have you done that exercise and your performance was bad ? if you cant manage co2 build up and you need to breath at 1st sign of stress... guess what...there are others that can.

If i enter in the swimming pool and i inhale and do a static apnea i can manage co2 for about 40-45s...if i do the above exercise i can manage co2 for about 2 mins +. My personal record is 2 min 45 seconds on static apnea just by doing the above exercise...and guess what...i`ve done it just 5 times (static apnea)...and no black out.
 
I insist because static apnea is different from a breath hold swim. Swimming increases your metabolic rate, which drops your blood o2 levels quicker than being in a static position.
 
My wild guess would be if the body can adjust to the slower rate it will remain closer to the same level or if it cannot it will rise
 
What do you think will happen to your co2 levels when you do that above exercise?

it will build up, but co2 will build up slowly if you do it. as i told you, by doing this exercise you can perform 50% better underwater. that means you can swim 50% more. Why? Because co2 will build slowly!!! i wonder how you will react when you will find out about the other breathing exercises freedivers do. :blinking:

Freedivers breath up as well, but the smart ones have safety divers too.
 
I suggest some physiology courses.

You are artificially lowing your co2 levels with that exercise (by forcing it out at an increased rate than normal respiration). Lower it to a point where breathing isn't triggered before critical o2 depletion, and blackout can occur. By swimming (you are using is MORE o2), that critical period can be reach much more quickly.

I don't care what free divers do, I care what people do in a Fundamentals course so they don't blackout. Your advice is simply bad advice.
