Hello! Newbie on the boards (obviously), but I have been lurking around for a couple days to try and learn a little about scuba. I'm not certified and I'm not taking classes at the moment, but it's in the plans.

A little history. I'm actually not a complete newbie when it comes to scuba. When I was 13, I went with my grandpartents to visit some family out west. My uncle was working as a scuba instructor at the time and he and his coworker gave us a crash course in scuba so we could go out a few times. Two 12+ hour days of instruction, videos and tests, a full day of pool time, then three ocean dives over two days. It was intense, but amazing!

Got my Junior Cert., but that was 16 years ago. And, unfortunatly, I didn't really have any opportunies to ever use it once I got home, so I have long since forgotten everything about it except how much fun it was!

So, I decided it's time I do something for me and get back to scuba. I have a personal goal I need to work on and once I've acheived that, my reward is that I get to start taking lessons. (a great reward, don't you think?) I probably won't get a chance to do the lessons until July or so, but I'm trying to learn all I can before then, which is why I'm here.

Welcome.

Hi Mizzie,

Welcome to Scubabord from a fellow Minnesotan.

Come on, what are you waiting for. At least start your open Water book and confined water part of certification completed this winter. We have some great dive shops in the Twin Cities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Thanks everyone!

Where in MN?

Lol, it's not easy, trust me. Especially lately, I just want to say "to heck with it" and take classes now. But as it's a reward for something I really need to do, but don't want do, I can't. Trust me, this will be better in the end anyway, for several reasons. I do plan to get the book soon though, so I can at least start studying. That will help me stay on track.

And it's great to see people from MN here! Land of 10,000 lakes, there really should be more divers! :) Unfortunately the Twin Cities are a little too far away to go for classes, and so is Duluth. I'm more in the middle of the state. But we do have a pretty good dive shop here, so I'll be able to take classes here anyway. When I start looking for my own gear though...
