There will be a wedding in Cozumel this year. Likely in the summer, though possibly as late as October. Our current plan is to rent a large Villa on the water and bring family and friends down for the event. We will likely have the wedding/reception at the Villa. We think we have chosen the villa (11 BR/11ba) but have not booked it yet and are open to suggestions from those more in the know than we are on Coz availability of such places. Wedding party and family will stay at the villa, overflow will be planned for once we know who can make it. We may rent a second property.

More importantly, we are looking for a wedding organizer and catering for the reception. Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated. I know this may not be the place to find such info, but if any of our fellow divers have taken this particular plunge while in Coz...your thoughts would be appreciated. Send me a private message through the board if that is more appropriate.

Plan B is Iberostar....but once she saw the photos of the Villa....

Bill - first of all congrats. I'm not sure on your requirements for a villa. But if there is flexibility you may want to consider this place.

casa cini kin na a cozumel vacation villa

It has much fewer bedrooms, but it is within close walking distance to three hotels, (Scuba Club, Hotel Cozumel and the Palace) The big plus is its location close to town. It is adjacent to and North of Scuba Club) No need for numerous rental cars or a small fortune in taxi fares to move your big group around. Plus the proximity to town gives your guests much more options for dining, shopping, entertainment ect.

Sounds like a trip down to check out various options might be in order.

A trip down to cozumel seems to always be in order. 45 days last year. :) Those H1N1 prices were just too good to pass on. Would it be too much to ask for another round this year?

We're heading down in March to try to finalize some things. Hopefully we will have a plan by then.

I'd love to give some suggestions but ours was an elopement in 1989 to Coz. We got married on the beach across from Casa del Mar. Bartender and some of the wait staff at Casa stood up with us. At the time I was working for an airline and we made multiple trips a year to Coz and always stayed at Casa del Mar so it seemed fitting. If I remember right we had to get some paperwork from the Mexican Consulate in Chicago before we went down then hooked up with the Justice of the Peace (?). An short older gentleman who was very nice but spoke broken english. We also had to get blood tests down there. Never found out what they were for, never got any results back. Two kids later and now we are 4 divers to Coz every spring break! Good Luck!

Have been in a wedding on Coz. It was at sunset on the Reef Star dive boat with a cruise afterwards thru Scuba Club. The entire group stayed there , they [Sophia @ SC] arranged everything. The plus was we all dove before and after the wedding. Really easy for the couple as all food, drink,decorations, rooms taken care of, Spohia even took the girls to do the girl stuff the day before and pick out the flowers etc;
P.S. The Mexican legalities and Notary were also handled by SC

Dear Bill,

We highly recommend Fiona Lomax as a wedding planner. She is a very long time resident and has all the connections to make it go smoothly. She can be reached at Destination wedding coordinator of Cozumel weddings and Mexico beach wedding

Yup...
Dave offered us use of the Villa right after I proposed On the Villa's dock in 2006... As long time Aldorian's we had the ceremony right on the Villa's beach the next year (2007).
Fiona did our wedding in March of 2007. Everything was great.
For our ceremony... The diver's stayed at the Villa, family/friend guests "visited" when ever they wanted through out the week before the big day. We stayed in the Aldora suite so we had plenty of room for visitors. That way we did not disrupt the normal divers activities that were staying there. I dove two tanks the day I was married!!! I also wore my shorts and sandles for the ceremony on the beach. Many watched with great interest... I could type for an hour about how nice people were and are... We love the Villa.
Just remember the Villa is a "dive Villa".
What else do you need to know?
Ask and we will try to answer. We will be there in March 2010 along with some others that were there in 2007. We always make new friends.;)
Let me work on posting some pictures...
