DC800 housing button sticking

Joe, on my recent trip to Cozumel my "shoot" button kept sticking in the down position. After a few incidents I found that rapping the camera sharply on the heal of my hand seemed to pop it back up again but this was only possible if I wasn't using the strobe. A friend on the same trip had a DC1000 and had the same issue (he was the owner of my dive shop and was going to send it back). He was always using the strobe and was therefore unable to do my trick (which at 90 feet was a bit iffy anyway as I was afraid I would jar the case open).

Has this been reported before?

Is there a fix?

The buttons on my DC500 case started sticking last year. I re rinsed the case, empty. Then after it was dry I lightly lubed the buttons on the outside of the case, then pushed them in and out with my fingers with the case opened, until they move freely, with no more sticking at all. Had to play with it for a while, but it worked very well.

I have had no problem since John. Figured I may not have rinsed it well enough a year ago, and gotten some salt crystals in the buttons.

I was going to try that but as far as I know my friends DC1000 was brand new so I ruled out salt. But it's worth a try. I'll rinse it with some warm water and maybe a touch of vinegar. What did you lube it with? I dont want to use anything that would hurt the rubber.

I had the same problem with a Fantasea Housing for a Nikon Coolpix 3200 camera.

If too much pressure was put on the shutter button it would get stuck in the down position, and only sometimes could I free it up by "flicking it" with my finger. Lots of wasted picture opportunities there.

I fixed the problem by afixing something to the bottom of the shutter button so it couldn't go down quite as far. I forget what I used but it was something along the lines of a plastic piece held with a dab of silicone. Sure it shouldn't be necessary if it was designed properly but it was a quick and easy repair.

I used a small amount of silicone O ring lube.

Sorry for the delay, just trying to get from behind of work after our DEMA show in Orlando.

There have been a few instances of sticking buttons that were caused by some material around the reach on the shutter button. Instead of trying to do any repairs on it yourself, I would send it back for our service team to do the servicing on it.

Just give them a ring at 856 866-9191 and get the RMA for it. They will send it back working like a charm!
