Well i have been using the Kydex plate with Steel 100/130, And i have never experienced any roll, or discomfort with it in or out the water. My girl just switched over to a DSS kydex last week, and is now kicking herself as to why she never switched earlier. As for me and now her i dont see me ever replacing my DSS rig unless i decide to ever venture into the realm of doubles... And then i will just give Tobin another call..

Thanks Tobin for putting out such an awesome product, and the patience to help us configure a rig that suitsd our needs..

So you have not personally used a DSS single rig of any type?

Although the DSS kydex plates are sufficiently rigid for single tank, doubles, or even Rebreather use most single tank divers are better off with a Stainless Steel back plate.

Do you think based on your admittedly **zero** experience with DSS single rigs that our Stainless Steel plates are "too flexible" to merit consideration?

There have been "STA-Less" BackPlate and wings that were less than successful, but that does not mean that all direct mount systems are the same.

I doubt you will find many (any?) actual DSS single rig users reporting that there is **ANY** tank instability.

Please take a moment and view this video.

Does it appear that the tank is moving relative to the backplate?

I suggest you limit your opinions to gear you actually have first hand experience with.

BTW I was diving this morning with steel doubles and an al 40 dec and al 80 stage using a "too flexible" DSS kydex back plate.......

Tobin

Tobin,
I cannot fully open the link as this a two day old notebook not yet fully configured. Last year when doing my due diligence before purchasing I stated that I frequently dive off our coast in deeper waters lobster hunting using LP98's with cave fills. A poster who seemed to know what he was talking about made the H suggestion in the beleif it may be more stable for the reasons stated above. A SS plate may be just the ticket for the OP as he probaly dives with a 5mm suit most of the year in NW Fla. If you have an active dealer with a demo rig in SE Fla I would love to test one out as I am making some headway with convincing most my dive buddies to ditch their SP jacket BCD's and your products are more competeively priced than H for sure.

I applaud your extensive participation on this forum. Did not mean to offend. Scott

Valhalla, where do you usually dive out from? If you ever want to meet up i can let you try out mine depending if a medium size plate would fit you...

I do appreciate the kind words you have posted regarding our gear, and I'm pleased to hear your DSS doubles rig is meeting your expectations.

my beleif that the more flexiable kydex plate and lack of STA would result in more tank roll.

The problem here is the substitution of "beliefs" for facts.

I am 6'1" so it's proably not the ideal size but I doubt it matters much. I am up with diving anywhere. Boynton? PM me in the next few days. I have to split to catch some zzzzzzz's.

Tobin,
I agree. If you check my post statistics I recomend DSS to H by a 10/1 margin. Take care!

The DSS site recommends the medium plate for 5'3" to 6'0", and the large plate for 6'3" to 6'8". You fall in the inconvenient gap between ideal sizes, but that suggests a medium would probably be fine.

Humm, not quite.

Medium 5'3" - 6'0"

Large 6'0' -6'3"

Long Pattern 6'3" - 6'8"

Extra Long Pattern 6'8" & up

Humm, not quite.

Huh, not my day!

I was fooled by the ordering and below-the-fold arrangement on the site.

Disregard my original post, back to the regularly scheduled bp/w discussion

Is there not a sticky thread that addresses this very same question the OP is asking?

Every time a question/thread comes up in regards to a BP/W set up somebody always get defensive about their product being sold. So old, so boring. He just keeps going on and on and on and on and on.....
